I had this from the ages of about 6-8.
I only just realised there was a word for it now.
But looking back, it seemed pretty obvious as a symptom of my progressing anxiety disorder.

I'm so glad to see you have made a stamp on your page about trichotillomania. (sp?) awareness. I've suffered Trich for 11 years - and thought no one would have heared of it. It's something many turn a blind eye too.

I'm actually... amazed, at how many people have commented on here saying that they too have, or have suffered trichotillomania. If anyone wants, or has advice they'd like to share then please, please let me know. I still need help. Thankyou.

It takes someone else saying the word to remind me that I even have it. That's how long I've gone without it being brought up to me - it was always just "I pull my eyelashes out".

Good to see the word and go "OH YEAH, I HAVE THAT."

Must be...

and Ive been a Beatles fan just as long as been a Beatles Fan 11 years..

what sucks the most about Trich is that doctors wont tell you anything(well for me anyways) they think its all in my head(no pun intended)

MoltoFuckingBene In reply to Belislythindor [2011-11-11 15:32:46 +0000 UTC]

I've tried and tried with doctors, psychiatrists, books, whatever I could get hold of and I'm still a sufferer.

I am still suffering as well.

Heh. I keep making unintentional puns and references myself. "I'm so stressed I'm %$@# tearing my hair ou- oh wait."

I actually haven't talked about it much with doctors, I don't even remember the initial diagnosis. It was years ago. My family is more helpful, anyway.

....I've been pulling less now though with the winter cold coming along. I wear hats and that keeps temptation away.

T.T Doctors dont know much about trich anyway.
...idk if it may help but I've been recently taking Biotin(some b vitamins) and its helping with the urge to pull

I've been having a HARD time but the last few days have been better.

I tried some amino acids that were helping some sufferers in trials, but unfortunately it didn't work for me.

Stress is a big factor i think

...I havent tried actual meds..

zStars In reply to Belislythindor [2010-12-18 02:59:14 +0000 UTC]

Oof, absolutely. I actually take fluvoxamin for anxiety anyway (I have OCD) and I don't know if that has any affect on the trich.

And yeah, this was more a vitamin than a med, although I was hoping it would help :/

I suffered from trichotillomania for 7 years now, pulling out my hair altough I could never figure out why. I managed to stop for 3 weeks before I suddenly became so angered and stressed I began to do it again, I don't remember how I even came to stopping. Can anyone, anyone atall give me a tip or any help?

My mother is participating in a study on Trich at Stanford university. If you're in the greater bay area, you should look into it
