Holy hell man! I've finally read through the story, and I have to say, that was amazing! Once again you've confirmed for me once again you're one of the best writers I know.

Holy hell man! I have always loved journal style stories but this one was extremely good, you kept up the suspense perfectly and the slow dive into further hopelessness and insanity were outlined damned beautifully. This was a hell of a monster you cooked up, for some reason primate based monsters are always more frightening than any other and you used that to the fullest. Damn DH.

One spooky mother fucker. This would make a good movie of psychological horror. No context at all, you would wonder if the creature was real of if this mans mind is just slipping away. This.. is a great monster. This monster needs to keep existing, flat out.

Thanks. I don't think he's something I could use for any of my current projects, but I enjoyed working with him here. I always get so wrapped up in perfecting these really specific, novel kaiju designs that it's nice to just step back and work with someone simpler who's character shines more in the story side of things.

Maybe for Kaiju All Stars as a story set on its own and not connected to anything? just one idea. if KAS gets off the ground...
Man I love this thing! JUST LOVE IT!

Glad to hear it! I'm pretty content staying out of KAS, though.

Very well done. I love how it all writes out like a creepy pasta and an explorer's journal at the same time. Very creative and effective use of the Monster Type.

Thanks. Hoping I didn't stray too far from the source material and move into the wrong Monster Type.

The key aspects of the Nue are there so it's not only fine but effective. Even the narrator doubts what it is at first.

Oh my goooooddd, that story holy shit DH are you trying to kill me? Β That was amazing! Β It was creepy as hell, dude, just amazing all around. Β I can see the Nue influence now that it was pointed out, that's pretty damn cool. Β The fact that the scientist laughed at what he thought were inaccurate and superstitious depictions of a real primate is really a good touch. Β
This is a really solid entry, Chris, and I don't know why you waited to upload it you scardy cat. Β

Thanks so much! Like I told K, I was really apprehensive about the story. I write about monsters all the time but it's usually not meant to be scary, and the horror genre is such a big, popular thing, especially with creepy pasta now- I just felt like it was gonna come across as amateur hour. Which it totally is, but you know what I mean. I did a lot of revisions to try and get it just right so it's a big relief to hear it wasn't a flop.

A Nue! And what a terrifying beastie he is! When I first saw this beast I didn't see the Nue in it but now, with the context of the story, it fits very well. The strong point here is the story, the image is eerie with the fog and ominous red eyes, but the story here is what cements this as something pants shittingly terrifying. And the prompt works fairly damn well for what the Nue is, although given that it causes disease (or at least is associated with plague) in the folklore, I find it funny this one's Achilles heel is that of the common cold.Β xD
All in all, a very strong entry. Right off the bat, two strong entrants. You have shaken this contestants confidence, my friend, lol.

Thanks so much! I don't usually write straight horror stories and was afraid this was going to suck big time, so seeing your positive comment first was really reassuring. You're totally right about the plague stuff, though, haha. I figured having sicknesses interfere with our ability to perceive it (thus making it "go away" from our dimension) was the most logical way to implement that weakness, since it's intangible and wouldn't be directly affected by things like poison. My idea was that in this lore the "diseases" spread by the Nue were actually people's health degrading as a result of it messing with their minds.
It was probably really transparent, but "Dinovenator" was meant to represent my depression & anxiety more than any of my personal or positive traits- I thought that seemed more appropriate for being the real "monster in me", and writing the story came much easier when I had an enemy I'd actually had experience with. The result was that I had to fudge some of the creature's mythical roots, which probably cost me in that category, but it let me hit all my stats, so I'm hoping it was worth it.
If your confidence has to be shaken I think it should be because of Kali, not me; that was a really impressive first entry!
