Description The goofing off continues.

I've wanted to do this for a long time. The only thing that stopped me was the idea of offending people.

But then, it just hit me. People do serious political artwork against the US, and I'll take flak about goofing off with this? Hell no.

So, this is for all of us grammar natzees out there.

Those of us who want to point out every grammatical mistake when we see one.
Those of us who want to slap the crap out of whoever makes a grammatical HORROR (not error).
Those of us who loathe enormous paragraphs with no formatting whatsoever. Just one huge line of text, without commas!
Those of us with dictionary.com in our bookmarks.
Those of us who are cool enough to laugh it up when we make a mistake ourselves.

The grammatical mistakes at the bottom are intentional to go with the 5th point.

Oh yea, 15 mins in Photoshop. Definitely not my best poster, but It'll do. It'll do.

EDIT: Turns out that I actually misspelled a word in the poster by accident! Not so much of a natzee!

I don't think the meaning of what's behind "natzee"-truth should be taken lightly...

... People were killed, slaughtered and their pride was destroyed!

Trying to be a smart azz, and to quibble about spellchecks doesn't mean that you would kill a person for their way of writing... would you?

I do not understand your comment. Are you saying that I'm using the term lightly or that anyone who would think that I'm using it seriously is wrong?

3nm4 In reply to dinyctis [2011-10-07 09:12:17 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I do absolutely think that the use of it is wrong. People seem to praise you for naming it that way...

I do understand the idea behind it but I don't think of it as funny or creative in anyway!
Naming your product that way is one thing but using matching colors and symbolics that could give a hint to actual "Nazi-Idealogies" is another.

If the name already makes the connection in your head, then what is the matter with the colors? It's one thing to borrow looks of Nazi propaganda and the other to make a direct connection to actual nazi ideologies.

It's not like I'm making a poster of a grammar nazi putting misspelled words in an oven. That, my friend, would be crossing the line (for me, at least).

3nm4 In reply to dinyctis [2011-10-08 08:06:14 +0000 UTC]

It seems after all the positive feedback your mind went blank as soon as you have to find excuses for your product.
Maybe there are also people who really feel offended about it. Did you ever think about that?
I feel offended by it, I am jewish and your excuses dont't make sense to me.
Fact is, it is part of my families past and people should not use this tormenting and very sad past jokingly. So yes, I "DO" make direct connection to your selfnamed Propaganda in Nazi disguise because you just admitted exactly the point I feel offended by!

It sure is hillarious though, that you got through with it when someone reported your "poster" for the 1st time.

I guess a person who doesn't bear any relation to it couldn't possibly understand, how bad those lightly taken jokes(or what ever you are calling it) hurt those who were involved.

dinyctis In reply to 3nm4 [2011-10-08 13:12:09 +0000 UTC]

I did expect a few people to be offended. By a matter of exposure. Most people do not find it offensive. Not that you're going to go through the comments and sort through, but I've gotten comments from Jewish people who find it funny. The more people found it funny, the more exposure it would get and, by a matter of time, the more chance that it would find someone who is offended by it. In your case, you are the most offended one in 6 years (or at least the most offended one to comment on it).

Now, let's ignore the rest and focus on you because, well, you are offended and this comment exchange is between you and me. I don't really know you, so I can't know for sure how or why you are offended (beyond what you write here). However, when I find myself offended at something, it helps to understand the motives behind it. A lot of times, I find myself initially offended at something and then, upon learning the motives, I find it acceptable and perhaps even embrace it.

Like it or not, the term "nazi" has found a way to be used in ridicule. It's a figure of speech. As a community, that's where it's gotten (without, of course, ignoring the real implications). Anyone who is overly stritct to annoying proportions is a nazi. Heck, even Seinfeld had a "soup nazi" which went on to be one of their funniest characters.

But the real reason is levity. When something stings, diminishing it and making fun of it helps in getting past it. This, of course, without forgetting the actual horrors. In your case, you're offended on a personal level because it represents a painful past for your people. For me, it's shame. Even though I'm not anywhere near German or from that time, it's shame that we as a species were capable of such things.

So you see, it's not meant to offend. It's meant to make laugh. It doesn't work on anyone, sure, but over the years, it's done its job well. It is unfortunate that you're offended. All I can do is explain my intentions in hope of a mutual understanding.

No matter what I do or say now will make you or anybody who reads those comments understand .. because you wrapped it up with all those empty phrases and p(r)etty words that are probably supposed to show you as mature and open minded.
so... sure, only thing to do is to behave like a little Lemming being squeezed by peer pressure, because something simply is mainstream comedy. No matter if u find the "truth" behind it horrible and all that!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dinyctis In reply to 3nm4 [2011-10-08 14:27:09 +0000 UTC]

On the contrary. The easiest thing would be for me to ignore you but I'm doing the opposite. I even put aside the fact that most people find it funny and engaged you on a personal level as if you were the first one to comment on it. That doesn't seem to matter to you, though.

The "p(r)etty words" and "empty phrases" have meaning to me and I've been saving them for 6 years for when someone would post what you did. I felt the same way back when I made this and feel the same way now.

But hey, it seems as if your mind is made up and you've lumped me into a group of people from which I cannot be removed, even after I've explained my reasons that show a clear disconnect with your initial assumption.

If you commented on this with the sole intention to get me to remove it instead of engaging in a meaningful conversation, then you will continue to be disappointed.
