Description My versatile cat, Squeak, makes yet another appearance in my gallery this time in the guise of a ruthless nocturnal hunter. This is about as far as can possibly be from his actual persona of sleeping 18 hours a day, purring, and rolling around on the floor.

Hehehe, I'll bet this one is quite cute and cuddly when he's napping. I've always thought most cats had this look about them like they know something they're not letting on; this shot goes a long way in perpetuation that notion.

He does actually. He sleeps on some old car seat covers in my bedroom.

LOL. I used to have a cat that would take naps in my laundry basket if I left it sitting full of clean clothes for more than half an hour...

Did I evoke fear?

Well, a mild fear, certainly an uneasyness. If I saw that while walkign down the street I woudl certainly move on more quickly.

Wow! Stunning.
How much editing did you do? Did you play with saturation of the eyes?

Amazing focus - something I can never seem to get when taking photos of my cat!

disgracian In reply to whatsinanamesilmaril [2005-11-04 12:51:19 +0000 UTC]

The original photo came out very underexposed so I desaturated the image, fiddled with the levels and then bled a pale blue back into it to simulate moonlight. As for the eyes, that was just a matter of copying them and piling Colour Dodge layers upon each other until they were bright enough. After that it was just some fiddling with sharpness, a noise filter and some cropping.

As for the focus, he just obligingly wandered into my focal range while I was playing with it, so I took a snap.

When he's really only from my backyard. It's fun being able to invent new realities with a camera.

i love this. it's just stunning. in so many ways. i could stare at it for hours. i love the colour and the detail of the grass, you can see the blades and grains.. and i love the dark colours, it's almost haunting. but i especially love squeak. he looks evil, like he's out hunting, and if you get in his way, he'll claw you. those eyes just stare straight through you. i just love it. and i must say, you've done a good job with the image.. amazing work! instant if ever i had one
