The Tenebrous Codex is an accursed grimoire, its tainted pages containing blasphemous lore so perverse and antithetical to the natural order that its mere existence is an affront to the gods themselves. Bound in flayed obsidian flesh and secured by runic seals of profane warding, this eldritch tome originated from a cabal of nihilistic archmages who sought to unmake the cosmic fabric separating the realms of the living and the dread outer void.

It is whispered that in achieving their nihilistic apotheosis, these heretical practitioners sacrificed their very souls to transcribe every unhallowed truth and soul-scorching ritual required to usher in a realm of eternal unraveling. As a result, the Tenebrous Codex's true purpose is to serve as an infinitely replicating engine of negation - its incomprehensible lore acting as a spiritual vemvermor that reduces any who dare plumb its depthless knowledge to empty, howling husks.

Powers Granted:
Tenebral Mastery - The reader gains proficiency with all necromantic spells and can cast Blight, Enervation, and Danse Macabre at will.
Oblivion's Caress - As an action, the wielder can unleash a 20-foot cone of unraveling entropy that ages and decays any creature enveloped, forcing a Consitution save against taking 8d8 necrotic damage.
Grimoire Apotheosis - By performing an 8-hour dread invocation over the Codex while sacrificing a creature, the reader's soul becomes spiritually twinned to the tome, granting immortality but at the price of a permanent -6 penalty to all Charisma ability checks.

Curses Borne:
Oblivescence - Any time the wielder fails a saving throw while reading from the Codex's pages, they must make a DC 18 Wisdom save or permanently forget a random spell or proficiency from their repertoire.
Existential Severance - Prolonged study of the Codex gradually severs the reader from the primal structure of reality. After 1 year of ownership, they gain the inability to be detected by divination magic or perceive extradimensional presences. After 5 years, they become unable to leave whatever plane they currently reside in.
Whispers of the Void - The roiling, sibilant murmurs that seem to emanate from the Codex's pages grow steadily louder over time, eventually manifesting as debilitating psychic static that induces excruciating migraines whenever actively concentrating on any task other than devouring its contents.

Only those whose will and sanity remain implacably firm after prolonged immersion in the Tenebrous Codex's entropic teachings can hope to avoid being subsumed into the infinite void which births and eventually reclaims all existence. All others are fated to dissipate into the uncaring oblivion from whence this profane grimoire first emerged.
