Protecting the princess of Hyrule has its many quirks. One being putting yourself in the way of danger. However, Impa wasn't ready for how heavy the metal box was with it being thrown by a moblin. Nor did she realise the princess was completely out of harms way of its trajectory. But it was too late as she's now a better protector of the 2nd dimension.
