THE CHAINS DESTROYED ME
I'm not sure where this idea came from and it started out with me trying to do some pose practice. At some point I guess I decided I was going to take it all the way into a full piece and here we are. xD
I improvised the character and he's loosely based on a sea urchin. The impression I got while drawing this was that he was incredibly poisonous and he'd been chained to the bottom of the ocean to keep him away. Other than that, he hasn't done anything wrong, and as you can probably see, he's incredibly sour about it. I'd say he's been down there a while and he's become quite unfriendly, not that I blame him.
Edit: I was convinced by you lot to do more with him, and so I am as of now working on a short comic that tells his story and how he ended up like this. Thank you all so much for your support and giving me the confidence to make something.

just good quality supplies if you draw on paper and possible tips on character poses

I very rarely draw on paper so I can't really tell you what's the best stuff to use.
With poses I'd say keep a folder of images that you like, I have a huge collection of poses that I screenshot from things that I'm watching, reading or just happen to find. There are also a lot of pose reference you can search for (though be warned a lot may be nude). I would definitely say avoid copying/tracing these images directly, they are there to help you understand and get inspiration of how bodies move and look from certain angles.

also, I'm really curious how artists do the small effect where you have your lineart change color ever-so-slightly (like the lines near the shoulders are more magenta while the tail lines are much darker) how do you do this ;;;;;;;;;;;o;;;;;;;;;

And thats easy! If you also use sai I can show you in that:
If the thing you want to colour is thick enough (opacity-wise) then you just hit the "preserve opacity" option above the layer window while youve got the correct layer selected

What this does is make it so whatever you draw next will be limited to the confines of what was already there before you ticked the botton.
For example, with this layer of pink hair, I draw a line with this not ticked:

Erase it, tick the box, and do the same thing:

So basically you just do that with the layer the lines are on. Its just the same thing :3

A soft brush like the airbrush works well with colouring lineart!
