Description omg, can it be?! It is! A TRADITIONAL MEDIA PIECE!! Crazy. This was made with scratchboard in my cartooning class. Scratch board is a peice of black card that you scratch the black off of (using pointy scratchboard tools) to reveal white underneath-- to put it plainly. So yah, last time I did scratchboard I tried a lot of crosshatching for gradient shading. This year, though, I decided to stick with solid shading. So I went with a high-contrast pic I whipped up of--go figure-- Jak. Then I made a contrasty rubber stamp with Daxter But that's not being submitted So yah, enjoy!

PS. I signed my name in Photoshop. Just to go ahead and put that out there.

Ah scratch board....how large was this? 5x7 or such? Lovely shading!

I like the dark contrast, and the heavy dark ares. Never see that much anymore.

Love it. Very dramatic! Would you mind if I used it as a reference for facial shading? I'm in bad need of some practice with high constrast cartoon shading. Again, marvelous work!

with all the Artists/Movies/Music/etc out there don't be. It'd take someone with no life to actually go through every artistic work ever created and continuing creating art themselves.

But it is a good movie. you should kill yourself now for not having seen it.

Truly and utterly magnificent, a remarkably striking representation of Jak, if ever I had seen one! Why, if I hadn't known any better, I would have sworn this was digitally created, what with how absolutely _incredible_ this one turned out. There's something just so eye-catching, so brilliant about the way you've represented light and shadow, and on a piece of scratchboard, no less! I know how tricky those blasted things can be, and frankly, near-impossible to correct if a mistake had been made. The way you had used light and shadow, such a striking contrast to show just enough of the piece, you had made something distinctively striking and eye-catching, and it's even _better_ when it's Jak! ^_~

You've captured such a delightfully wicked look in this piece, something about it simply screams out about it, showing _just_ enough. It's one of those wicked looks that would definitely make you tremble (though completely your choice of what _kind_ of emotion would be causing that tremor, of course), but I think it has to be the striking, stark black and white look of it that really makes this one so delightfully intriguing to me. Congratulations on creating such a distinctive, enjoyable picture of Jak, your sharp control and fine details really make this particular piece really come alive! I say kudos to you for managing to master such a tricky medium, only to create something so deliciously wicked, especially for someone like Jak!

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much! I'm so happy you like it ^_^ I was pretty surprised, myself, at how the detail came out... I think I may owe some of it to the brand new tools my teacher had this year ; They worked pretty smoothly compared to what I remember of using them two years ago. Anyways, I'm glad you like the contrast work I haven't done much with that kind of lighting but the feedback I'm getting inspires me to do more Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging comment!

dizzyclown In reply to pagan-wolf [2006-06-02 18:08:47 +0000 UTC]

I started mine by drawing up a sketch on a separate piece of paper and then carbon transfering the lines onto the scratchboard (scribble massive amount of 6B pencil on the back of the paper, put that side down on the scratchboard and trace the lines), lifted up the paper and then set to work scratching to my heart's content
