Gridiron football is American football. We're just special (or stupid, either/or) and still call our sport football since it was derived from a mix of football and rugby.

Generally, world Football is referred to as soccer here. It's just a culture thing, we've called our sport football so long I doubt it'll be changed anytime soon.
