Description
Update, starting the painting, face mostly done but needs texture and details, hair looks nice but I'm stuck with how to do more of it (not used to hair) and the neck.. no comment. The colours are faded out due to medieval style but I think too much, any idea how I can add colour back in? Please comment!---
Sketch of my new Cappadocian Dark Ages character - Naz bt. hicbiri (Naz, daughter of none). Displaced daughter of a Turkish noble family, disinherited for her incorrigible fascination with the sick and dying and for transgressions thereby.
She's too thin - that's deliberate. She was Embraced (turned into a vampire) whilst living as a vagrant wanderer, and though her status has improved since then she still has the lank hair and malnourished form to prove it.
Used the amazing stock [link] from ~cva-stock as a base.

She is so pretty, I would love to know more about her and also see this as a finished piece

This is progressing along nicely. Though I have to say, I enjoyed her "rougher" look in the previous version. Her eyes and hair are a wonder though! Especially her eyes. Will you keep going with it? I'd really like to see the finished version!

I often get that - people like my less finished work more.Β
I might well get back to this again after shelving it, as I now have a new tablet and can paint once more

Awww, you're right, she does look pretty, but not in a way that you should be 'worried' about, because to me she still has a distinct pallid grunge feel, which is looking like an awesome combination. Love the earthy tones too :3 I'd like it if this was finished, but definately not 'polished', keep some bits really rough and blocked in, will keep the attention on her face
As for playing with colour, you can add a new layer over the rest, and set it to blending mode 'color'. There's tutorials on here I'm sure. Similar in principle to colourising a black and white image. Could look interesting if you just use a large, soft airbrush on that layer and it'll tint what's below eg. whites and blacks are fixed, but makes changing tones between easy!

Hi! Thanks so much for the comment, sorry I took so very long replying. I appreciate the advice and I'm really glad you think it still works. I hope I'll finish it sometime now my tablet has been replaced. Also I might well look into blending modes!

The shading on the nose is fantastic Great work so far and I hope to see the final piece! It's so delicately shaded, all of the face! Maybe just adding different shades and hues into shading of the top and hair, etc. will make the piece seem more lively?

I'm thinking of that for the hair at least
The original top was green, perhaps the best colour that wouldn't just clash?

Thank you
But.. she's gone all pretty. The smoothing of the skin took away some of the personality and I'm not experienced enough to do anything about it

Most people are not used to draw the skin textures, but I don't really think it depreciates your work at all. You know, more than such details, I believe you managed to express her personality (at least it seems so, for I don't know her too much) with her traces and the look in her eyes - wich I think it's far more difficult.
Either way, I found these tutorial some months ago and it might be useful for what you're trying to do. [link]

.. She's gone all pretty. I didn't want her to be that pretty. Will need to add pores and stuff (not looking forward to this)
