Description
Today I went to the monument to meet with the WWII Soviet veterans who saved us many years ago from the Nazis. While everyone was thanking this veteran he was crying..he couldn't say a word..he was happy that people remember their deeds..and remember people and soldiers who died during the war. I thank all the veterans who fought and made our world a better place.UPDATE: I got rid of the stroke and the USSR stars near my signature. This photo doesn't need decorations.
update2: minor color adjustments
Update DD: Thank you $Moonbeam13 and a friend who suggested (remained anonymous) Thank you, friends for all your comments! I will try to answer all the questions and comments! Thank you again!

A poignant and touching piece. God bless all veterans.
Congrats on the DD... at least there were 2 Veteran's Day related DDs... which is a joke, if you ask me. They ALL should be related to the day.
Great capture

this image brought me close to tears.
it's as others had said - it's a raw and powerful image.
i, too, thank the veterans of the wars for fighting for our rights and freedoms.
without their courage and strong wills, i'm sure things wouldn't be the same.

that is really a great intensive and sensitive shot
and I really feel sorry for the old manm fir everyone who went through that hell on earth.
BUT
sorry to interrupt the romance .
it was a cruel war on all sides, and many people wouldnt have missed to see pregnant woman getting raped and stabbed before their childrens eye, especially soviet rural "soldiers" and SS people did that, I dont know how much you have talked with old people, but believe me, it is actual fact that rape and murder was orderedat soviets side by highest ranks.
many gave a damn to free us, it was to slaughter down hitler and as many possible germans in a row as possible as grim heartless revenge.
That is no different then a german having a grudge against other countries since he ate his own boots to barely survive before hitler "saved" the poor fools.
thats how you induce war. let the peole starve.
its a proof historical fact that this order "to rape plunder and kill" was given to the soldiers, stated in public non-rightwing magazines and historyposts. Just like the morgentauplan. its not a rightwings fascist fantasy.
Its the cruel reality of war.
its just as cruel to my grandparents to deny and forget this fact as it would be cruel to speak of holocaust lies to jews !!
we should not ever forget the reasons for the battle had been severe DEADLY hunger , that capital interests had been a driving force from scratch ( read wikipedia, henry ford was the actual inspiration for Hitler and many antisemitism).
Each side did their best to dehumanize the opponent, to spread hatred and to enlarge their greed.
which state that participated in the war did that not ?
ok norway, they have been rather sucked in then participated, I accept they had been a neutral force, finland as well.
anyone else ?
french militaric tactics aimed long term to damage the rival germany.
germans always had been into fΓΌrst-wars and inbetween political tactical interests, and are not without any long term conditioning.
english plans of churchill had not been to eliminate hitlers reich only , but the very reich itself. proofen by english historics through the only material that is not blocked from the publics eyes.
American press had been rotten through different sources like today and attacked the same country which american sources actually support - like in iraq today.
japanese thought of chinese as inhuman tree people.
chinese probably felt hatred towards their opponents as logical as it is, and who knows why japanese started to think that way, there is a long road of blood in history.
"earth aint a pony ranch.."
it was a heartless ethnical battle on all sides and ends, with very very little amount of people with the luxury AND courage to try and help people.
No side should be glorified, that is dangerous.
my family only survived because an american soldier saved my very young grandfather and grandmother from the soviets after war by the way, they are very deep in sympathy with his actions and feel still very moved by his courage.
I dont feel a grudge against any tribe on earth.
I hold a grudge for the misinformation and one sided view of this tragedy.
I hold a grudge against any greedy bastard that makes money out of war.
I would cry too if I would ever have been through that, no matter which side or class I'd come from. lets hope some day a lethal law will abide any support of capitalism induced slaughter ( for side infos, dumb hitler wouldnt have been able to do "much" damage on that scale without some foreign capital interested people, giving credit and oil etc, just like at napoleons war. same greedy bastard shit going through the entire industrial time)
I hope I made my point clear without misunderstanding.
peace to all.

thank you for your very historically accurate point of view. It seems to me that many poeple have demonized one side or another so much that they're able to ignore the attrocities comitted by the other. In the two great wars there nearly all parties involved comitted grotesque crimes (the exception of nations like Finland as you mentioned), and its very disturbing how many people seem oblivious to these acts, seem blind to history.

this is so amazing on so many levels I love this. it's really touching...I really respect the people that fought to make any of us who we are. I think sometimes some of them deserve more respect then what they don't get, some people in the world don't even admit to what really going on. they are so rude to the people that really let them live how they do. I think this was amazing. and I cried when I saw this. great picture!
