Description We did it. After almost 5 hours of thought and work on this 5 by 5 alignment we have finally competed this monster of an alignment chart. We put a lot of thought into it and while we are sure that there are other characters to fit these roles, these are the best we could come up with. It was a project and we likely will not make another one anytime soon.

I think I identify best with Rocky and the Rebel Moral alignment.

I really like this kind of an expanded alignment chart, but there's just one of the names that put me off.
"Social". I didn't realize that being more chaotic-bent somehow made you anti-social, by definition, y'know?
It might, but it also might not. I know a few clearly law-abiding and disciplined folk who also just don't like people.
Namely, this would include a whole lot of RPG characters(NPCs mostly) falling under the label of "hermit monk".
So, for my games... I think I'd rather use the word "Civil" to describe this one, instead.

Yeah, I think that by Social they more meant Civil. Simple improper use of words.

Rebel Neutral would probably be me. Then again, I tend to wobble between Impure and Moral. If I really had to choose between Impure and Moral, I'd probably be Impure since when I do wobble that what I seem to wobble towards the most.

This is my basic understanding of each heading:

--

Good: Has good intentions. Likes to help others. A "good samaritan" type who lives to please others.

Moral: Has good intentions but is less selfless and a little more selfish than "good". Is willing to help out, but has the self-respect to be a little selfish at times.

Neutral: Doesn't care either way.

Impure: Not complete, pure evil, but not nice, not good, not friendly. Basically a villain who leans towards evil.

Evil: Has evil intentions. Malicious, spiteful and villainous. The polar opposite of good.

---

Lawful: Careful, calculated, obedient. Not necessarily empathic or friendly, but values tradition, and believes rules and laws are sacred.

Social: Is careful to the extent; more concerned with the opinions of others than with the law of the land.

Neutral: Doesn't care, does what they please.

Rebel: Free-spirited and headstrong, does their own thing. Doesn't quite care for the opinions of others, does what they feel is right.

Chaotic: Completely in a world of their own. Does whatever the hell they want, cares for no one but themselves.

---

Of course this is simply how I see it, I'm open to correction on this one. I think it's a neat idea, breaking it down further like this. I've always liked Alignment Charts. Nice job.
(And since everyone else is doing theirs, idk.. I guess I'm Neutral Moral.)

not diggin in, maybe if you outline your 'rules' and explain what 'pure vs impure and rebel vs social mean to you' to me pure and social are lawful. while rebel and impure are chaotic. so whats the point of muddling things?

ACEnBEAKY [2013-05-28 22:45:46 +0000 UTC]

I guess I would be Social Good or Social Moral, because Social Good is between Neutral and Lawful, as is Social Moral between Neutral versions of lawful and good.
I'm ok with that. Most games that give you options I vy to be Lawful Good with some exceptions. It's my ideal, since I CAN pull of Paladins but favor shamans a little more. I have deep convictions and know how to act-people's opinions matter to me IF they have a point. I've been called too nice and fair, though.
When I take the tests, I usually get Lawful Neutral. When I ask friends who have worked with me, they say that I would be neutral leaning towards good or neutral good, the latter one being a SGT I work with and respect, saying that I have a mean streak (along with a sneaky and perverted one) that's pretty large, but I choose not to act on it. (It only comes out when I'm drunk or blowing off steam in private).
Also, when I went through my sweet religious stage in my mid teens I kinda did act like Ned Flanders....before I devolved into a controlling, manipulative and selfish bastardization of good intentions gone wrong through insanity and denial (Rebel Evil?) Yeah, I should make a story telling of how not to screw yourself over, how Ned Flanders turned into Eric Cartman. The character even started out in shape under his conservative clothing and modest demeanor and say silly things like dilly, then turn into a fat evil mastermind. That wo

I guess the other sides of the cube, that would represent my evil streak that wants to come out.

However, If this analysis is multidimensional, then that would cover my alignment. My sense of humor by itself would be rebel chaotic neutral, bouncing between and clean and raunchy.

I guess that other examples would be:
Lawful Evil-Darth Vader, Baron Praxis, Handsome Jack. Pheonix King Ozai. Visser Three.
Social Evil: Vaas Montenegro, King Pin. Legal Pimps.
Neutral Evil: Dr. Robotnik (he would start out rebel good as Julian Kintobor for the Mobians, then rebel evil when he through a coup and roboticized everybody, then he would be Lawful evil but do things in a neutral way, then as Eggman being a terrorist to other humans he would be Chaotic).
Lawful Neutral: Any Russel Crowe character.
Chaotic Nuetral: Captain Jack Sparrow, Godzilla (He would actually be chaotic moral, leaning heavily towards neutral. He has good moments)
Nuetral Good: Spider Man. Aang?
Rebel Good: Luke Skywalker (although some could argue Neutral Good, leaning rebel or vice versa). Sonic the Hedgehog.

I had a conversation like this with a fellow philosophical coworker. He said sometimes the best advice is given from a neutral standpoint, but I'm more devoted to good than neutrality.

PS I REALLY wanna hear ya'lls take on this. What would the animorphs be? Rebel Good? Chaotic Moral? I could see them as a mix of Naruto and Chuck Norris in alignment. What would the X-men as a whole be? Rebel Good or Rebel Moral?

This is wonderful, I love how it makes it easier to categorize characters in the gray area between alignments. Could you explain the 'Moral' alignment? Is it mostly the halfway point between Neutral and Good? I guess I've always thought of Arnold as being a really good guy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DoASpotCheck In reply to infjeff [2011-09-11 22:37:20 +0000 UTC]

Moral is the gray area between neutral and good, which means that these are characters with a moral core that are mostly good. However, most if not all of these characters have done questionable things (remember the episode where Arnold joins a biker gang?) or actions that are not necessarily "good". Does that help at all?

infjeff In reply to DoASpotCheck [2011-09-12 15:49:55 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DoASpotCheck In reply to Merowynn [2011-06-06 19:23:08 +0000 UTC]

Our definition of True Neutral for this chart's purposes is "almost completely devoid of motivations". The thing about Wilson is that even though he is an inanimate object, he does have a "character" that just happens to have no motivations because he's a volley ball with personality. Like, a rock would not be true neutral, but Wilson is because without doing a single thing he kept the guy alive (in a sense).

I am familiar, as most are, with the 9 alignments.
I also can figure out what the 'rebel,' 'moral' and 'impure' subcategories create...
But can I get an explanation of what 'Social' refers to?

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

Nvlutz In reply to Jensaw101 [2011-06-07 22:47:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm sort of new to these "in the middle" alignments myself, but from my understanding "social" refers to a level of Lawfulness when you only appear to be lawful or refined in public.

An example could be you have two crime bosses. One being lawful evil and one being social evil. Both of them believe in forming a plan and having a set of rules, they might even both be prominent members of their society.

However if a minion betrays them a lawful evil might have a certain code where he believes he must deal with traitors personally where as a social just wants them dead. A lawful might have a rule against not hurting children, and thus has to find ways to work around it (such as getting a minion to do it) where as a social might claim to have a guideline but constantly make exceptions because the children pissed him off.

That's just my guess on it, I could be wrong. Alignment has always been something up for debate.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

DoASpotCheck In reply to Nvlutz [2011-06-08 20:30:08 +0000 UTC]

By the book, in a standard 3 by 3 alignment chart, Lawful evil encompasses both the tyrant and the mob boss because they are both "evil with a structure" as I call it. What we did is essentially separate the two from each other.

Our idea for the distinction between Lawful and Social Evil is that the Lawful Evil Character uses the "Law of the Land" (even if it's his own) as a way to be evil (the sith lord) whereas Social Evil is more of the kind of guy you can talk to and have civil interactions with however he does very evil things in the background (the godfather).
