Description
Maggie, the character from a proposed comic with Dan Parsons entitled 'Lady Luck'... I'd finished the lineart and the flats a while back, but decided to see if I could finsih it without too much trouble this morning, Here's the results, obviously very Pulp inspired. Maggie is being menaced here in this conceptual drawing by an evil Fu Manchu type character, typical of the story's 1938 setting. My friend Lolita Haze posed for the character of Maggie.Micron on Strathmore, Adobe PS7

The model is beautiful with a lovely 1930's feel to her; the lush features and voluptuous body, the lovely lingerie, the delightful 'damsel in distress' pose with the dress up over thighs and torn from one shoulder. As for the villain; I've read a number of the original Fu Manchu novels, seen the Boris Karloff version, (the best), and the first two Christopher Lee ones, (the first one wasn't a bad movie; after that....), and I can't see him menacing a girl personally - he would have had one of his Burmese Dacoits dispose of her. It is a cool image though and harkens back to an era when pulp fiction was a grand read.

This is a very nice piece. Your use/choice of color works powerfully, I think, and you really drew her face and pose well. Great work, Scott!

I've not read any of the originals YET... I LOVE The Boris Karloff flick, though...

I don't know if I've seen a Karloff Fu Manchu movie - I've seen all the Christopher Lee ones though

Still finding those ( I have one).
OK, get the Hollywood Legends of Horror DVD box set... it contains 6 classics (or semi-classic in a few cases) Horror films including the Mask of Fu Manchu with Karloff... it is THE most amazing example of pre-code pulp-noir film making EVER.. its CRAZY!

I may have to look out for that - when I'm in the states I generally buy those terrible 50 movie for $20 boxed sets...but Jenn's never that impressed ha ha.
I'll have to keep an eye out for the Karloff one now...
