Description Alice in Sugar Cubes

she was like the fire
searing moments of electricity
carried in her purse
notes of the underground
writing scribbles in between the pages,
she knew the names of everyone she ever met
making small paintings on paper
swirling kaleidoscopes of thoughts and passion
the day always dimmed when she left,
she took her heart on the road
met strangers
left donations
sat quietly on park benches
watching the days go slowly by,
very late in the day
she often thought she was Alice
loved to say
"go feed your head,"
loved to walk alone
in the forest
bringing back small animal skulls
she found along the way,
left the bones in her yard
to bleach in the sun
drank Absinthe and sugar cubes
with a straw
smoked Cubans and blew smoke rings
out into the fog

no wonder there wasn't any spell check for that word.
I like Gribbet...( after all these years ---maybe thats why the frogs dont get me.)

it does sound that way when u are out on the bayou.

frogs get you
they are just subtle in their appreciation
sitting on the lily pad just watching and waiting
for a fly to come bye
and then wapppppp

they just think you are stingy with flies
simple as that
nothing to get concerned with

there's a bar I used to go to
The Fly Trap
but there were no flies or frogs there
just busted memories
and one too many tales
told in reference to boredom
as it turned out

SLpImpressions In reply to DocSonian [2010-06-17 03:31:26 +0000 UTC]

its not that i am stingy with flies
that have a NASTY habit of irritating my eyes.
its an impulsive reaction you see--
to come down swift with a hand full of gout
and smother the mudder...
gives one no time---to be self less u know--
although all this i speak---echos some lie.
They can have the flies--
they can---
i much prefer the mice...
sliced pan seared and then diced
*
*
*
isn't that just the plain truth--
of must bar-tending tales...
quite similar to the cabbies worn out heart-
transporter for others
homeward bound journeys...
*
though I hear
conclusions are not yet set
in many a tale
or two
or three
we'za just gotta be...
that.

Back at the Art Institurte in North Beach
we used to call all the drawings we did in bars
Bar Flies
ode maybe to Charles Bukowski
or maybe just an ode to all the bargirls,
or the art students
or tourists walking by looking in.

once a friend and i ordered some nachos
at a bar south of market in San Francisco,
but the chips were swimming in cheese whiz
a nasty site
so my friend asked if we could trade it in,
the bartender stood there
we sat there
by the time the conversation was over
the cheese had hardened
so we decided to fill some of the cracks in the walls of the bar,
the bartender was so pleased he bought us a round of drinks,
and on the tv at the very same time
we were filling those cracks,
a kid on a spelling contest on ESPN
spelled the word 'Circumbilivagination'
someone yelled, what the hell does that word mean?
I said it means to move in a circle or walk around,
as the early eve turned to night
the lights went down
and the spelling contest really got going

No way!...
and how did you know that word?
i get circum--but--I would have gotten lost towards the later part of the word.
did you study latin?
*
your anecdotes are always so interesting.
I do hope you write them down...in book binding material --or is it on book bind-able material?
*
bar flies--
hmmm...
filling cracks --ch(g)eese whiz.

I like watching spelling contests
and yes
we had to study it all
private school and all
well for awhile
till we moved to Europe

i write some down and keep the ones i write now
a book will be made someday
Memoirs of the Painter from Hollywood

the cracks to this day smell like Velveeta

not really
my father did top secret design work (jets etc)
but he was working for Lockheed Aircraft
so private citizens aligned with the Military complex

but it was truly great.....we traveled everywhere
3 years in Italy
almost 3 in Germany
very cool times...I went to High School in Italy

the titles just come along
