Yeah... I love toned paper as well...
Recently I discovered who interesting it is to use with gouache as well.
Strathmore has a 300 gr. mixed media tan paper

I start loving the tan paper more and more...
It's such a different approacj when you can fill in both the lights and the darks.

it was a very fun and relaxing work for my during a week with lots of hours in the architectoffice...
Actually it was Svetlana from Russia who inspired me to something in that media...
She is really good at crosshatchingtechnique...specially the aspect of drawing the crosshatchstructure as wrappinglines instead of flat straight lines... it supports the shapes quite a bit.
