You've done such an awesome job here, I know the exact reference you used!Β  I'm surprised at the detail gouache can capture at such a small size.

thank's... I really love gouache... got inspired by Jeff Watts and certainly James Gurney...
But I often combine it with transparent watercolour or I just use gouache thinned so that it gets transparent for washes etc.

Hi Dominik !
Well done, it really wasn't a easy one !
I like the way you coloured it, and the background is nice with it too.
I can't really thnk of a critic, but maybe I can say that there is something with the nose...Β
It doesn't seem in the right axis ?
Anyway, keep up your amazing work
cheers

Hello LΓ©ana,

thank you for commenting.... I always appreciate that... it's so important for the progress in art.
Well... I checked the nose of my painting with the one on the reference photo and yeah... there is an issue
I can see that I made the upper part of the nose slightly concave while it acctually should be minimally convex...
This can change the expression quite a bit.
I also checked the axis... but that seems to be sound in my eyes.
What perhaps also makes the nose a bit hard is the fact that there should be less light on the nosetip...
Definitely missing a certain graduation over the tip towards the darkvalues under the nose.

In the background there was another interesting issue for me as I still am pretty new to gouache...
I tried to make the background with very soft edges > like the depht of field effect in portrait-photographie...
That makes the head itself focusing even more!
Well... it was a interesting exercise and certainly not the last of that kind

Please let me know when you have finished your version of Sean Connery... I am looking very much forward!
Cheers

Dominik
