VIDEO COUNTERPART - [link]

Another really good YouTube video for grids and beginners - [link]

My version of Photoshop is CS5.5 not the newest but it works a treat, this tutorial isn't aimed at true beginners of Photoshop, for that there is YouTube! This is for people that are dabbling or have the hang of things mostly.

Part 1 - VIDEO COUNTERPART - [link]
Part 2 - Colouring tutorial
part 3 - Cell shading tutorial

Horse Ref - [link]

YOU CAN ALSO PRESS CTRL & @ BUTTONS TO BRING UP THE PHOTOSHOP GRID IF YOU WANT MORE COMPLICATED BOXES.

Hope this helps, this is one of many to come, I thought I would start at the beginning, just on horses again, but this is what I do when I need more help with perspective & anatomy, mostly I just wing it and hope for the best, but I thought This would help alot of folks.

Colouring comes next, then cell shading and Backgrounds etc

Enjoy or whatever

If you have ANY questions or suggestions to make this tutorial better please don't hesitate to ask me I've got plenty of time and love getting comments in my inbox <3

Your way of doing Lineart is way simpler than mine.

I'm intrigued how do you do lines! O.o I only use this method when I want the anatomy to be a close match to an image or can't get the anatomy right, for things like dragons I usually start with pencil sketches then scan them and then draw over them in photoshop
Either way I always make a rough sketch underneath to get the placements right, I used to just sketch then ink in traditional and then take them over to ps and then ink them again lol! How times have changed

This will come in so handy! Would this particular style (using a grid) work in photoshop elements? I've dabbled in and out of digital work, and definitely need the practice you make the lines look easy

yep, it works in elements. if you need any help I would be glad to help, the only thing I don't know how to do is the 1,2,3,4 etc. / a,b,c,d.

Thanks for taking the time to do this It's massively helpful, horses are weirdly complicated to draw and having a reference (while an awesome thing) can be really daunting; where do I start?

This helps loads though, breaking the ref into sections makes it less intimidating but also helps in getting a more accurate shape. Must admit doing the "smooth" lineart is the bit that annoys me most, sketching (love), colouring (love), but that inbetweeny-serious-bit is the kicker haha

Thank you again

haha! inbetweeny serious bits are the worst! Shading & backgrounds & lineart are the ones that take me the most time ever! But making sure it's all done at the end is always a good feeling
