VIDEO COUNTERPART - [link]
Another really good YouTube video for grids and beginners - [link]
My version of Photoshop is CS5.5 not the newest but it works a treat, this tutorial isn't aimed at true beginners of Photoshop, for that there is YouTube! This is for people that are dabbling or have the hang of things mostly.
Part 1 - VIDEO COUNTERPART - [link]
Part 2 - Colouring tutorial
part 3 - Cell shading tutorial
Horse Ref - [link]
Grid ref - [link]
Hope this helps, this is one of many to come, I thought I would start at the beginning, just on horses again, but this is what I do when I need more help with perspective & anatomy, mostly I just wing it and hope for the best, but I thought This would help alot of folks.
Colouring comes next, then cell shading and Backgrounds etc
Enjoy or whatever
If you have ANY questions or suggestions to make this tutorial better please don't hesitate to ask me I've got plenty of time and love getting comments in my inbox <3

as the 3px round brush in the normal Photoshop brushes that I used, set to pressure sensitivity at the top of the program ^^

I'm just wondering, what are the advantages to using this kind of grid instead of photoshops? Really nice tutorial btw, this inspired my to try to grid again

I don't think there is much difference, you can adjust the photoshop grid and what not its just preference if you wanted to use the ps grid or a different one

Lol, lots of folk do it this way, well they use the Photoshop grid...(which I didn't know about until after I done this!)

Oh really? Most of the other tutorials I see just have them drawing the skeleton lines and what not.

well I kind of do both, but when I have trouble with a certain body part then I use this method

Hey, this is a really great tutorial, but i've a question.
I can't overlay the grid at (?) the Horse reference..:/
π: 0 β©: 1
DoodleBerrys In reply to SunshineElite [2012-09-10 10:02:26 +0000 UTC]
I'm making some video tutorials soon that will hopefully help, if your using Photoshop all you need to do is copy the Grid onto your work space in Photoshop, then on the right set it to 'overlay' or 'multiply' then transfer your Reference photo over as well, make sure that the Grid is above the Reference photo in the layers section.
If it doesn't make sense sorry but I'll have the video up as soon as I can.

I cannot copy yet the Grid!
PS refuses any working steps to me.

DoodleBerrys In reply to SunshineElite [2012-09-10 19:28:55 +0000 UTC]
I need more explanation, what is it that you can't do exactly?
To copy the grid, just copy and paste it into your Photoshop document same for the reference.
π: 0 β©: 1
SunshineElite In reply to DoodleBerrys [2012-09-11 04:27:49 +0000 UTC]
I open my Reference, than I open the grid in a a single window.
An when I try to put the grid into the window where the reference is, than my CS5 do not react.
And all worksteps in the grid-window is grey, means I can't use this worksteps e.g. copy, paste, scale
dye (?)... That is my big problem. I can't do anything with that grid.
PS says also " it's not a photoshop file " and I've change already from .gif into .png and into .jpg ..

do you use brush or pen for the black line art? it's so clean.
π: 0 β©: 1
DoodleBerrys In reply to caffeine-n-sugar [2012-09-07 08:56:18 +0000 UTC]
I still use the brush tool, Its only a small round brush set to 3pixles depending on what size your working on, I set it to pressure sensative as well and just go over in black, I don't like using the pencil tool it's too harsh.

you have very good control with the brush.

I think it's the tablet, it's just like using a pen on paper, you can see directly where you are putting the lines, it can help to do small strokes so that your not doing one large continuous line also

I use the tablet also, and it's not really like traditional. I'm pretty used to it now but i'll keep practice so it'll be as clean as yours
