I felt that this character's coloring had changed drastically enough through the course of this project that it deemed submitting a new entry for the portrait series... In any case..
Sushiko was a character I drew a while back (sometime last year) but I really didn't land on the look I was trying to go for at all, so I decided it'd be good practice to take another shot at drawing her, so I made a new concept piece, focusing on her face with the thought of making it a portrait piece.
So here it is, I guess. The fruit of my labor: Sushiko in all her glamorous-by-comparison-to-the-old-version glory.
(... Seriously. They look like, almost nothing alike.

...Also. White hair is hella hard to color, but I think I might've made a half-passable attempt of it here XD
I may make a minor update of this pic later as I'm not totally happy with the background in what became a full character piece, but eh. I hope y'all don't mind.
(Oh. Y'know, I just thought of something. I might not actually feel the need to do these portrait things unless I actually want to, if dA would just let us submit preview images again >_>;;; What do I have to do? forcibly submit it as a gif?)

White hair is hard to color? Hm. Another thing to add to my list of things non-artists would never expect.

It's true ^^ As is blue, actually. (though white is hardest)
Blue is interesting because the good shade of blue to color with is actually somewhere between 100% blue in RGB and Cyan, which is actually green and blue together. Straight blue often seems to lack color at lower saturations compared to other colors.

Well, all righty then. Yeah - I can't draw worth crap, and haven't taken a class about it since my kindergarten teacher had us draw tulips. Maybe I should look into an introductory class or something next summer, just to have something to do other than Half-Life.
In any case, I really like this piece of yours. For some reason, it reminds me of Lulu, although she has an exact opposite color scheme.

I've heard (and somewhat seen) that comparison before. I wonder if it's the lips? or more than that?

Her somewhat monochrome black (for Sushiko, white) hair and dress, same rough hairstyle, same immense chest, and the same fur-rim dress seemingly held up only by gravity looking away for a moment (or lots of tape in inventive places). Not sure about the lips.

Aah! Is that so? Do you have any good techniques for coloring white hair? ^^ I always have trouble choosing proper shading colors to bring out the whiteness instead of making them look grey or some other color. I find blue works nicely though.

Her regular style though, I'm not sure how successfully I'd rendered it, but I'll probably post the picture tomorrow as it is getting too late for me to do it tonight. I usually aim for a color that looks great against white moreso than a correct shade. I'm weird like that c: Blue and silverish/light tan work great though.

That's kinda what I mean ^__^;; I have a lot of trouble getting it to work right with white because it's easy to make the hair not look as white as I want it to.

It's ironic, though, that it's so hard to color white hair. In my opinion, you did an excellent job on it. Though I'm not sure what your opinion of my opinion is.

I dunno, maybe my art style's just evolving. Who knows?
And thanks XD I'm glad you think her hair turned out alright so far. When I get too lost with coloring, I basically scour gelbooru for coloring examples close to what I"m trying to do, and if I get lucky I might find something that could help me. I think it's how I learn XD
