Star Paladin Cross is at the Citadel after The Waters Of Life (needs Good Karma).
RL-3 can be bought from Tinker Joe outside the RobCo Plant (near Tenpenny Tower; needs Neutral Karma).
Butch can be found inside the Muddy Rudder Bar in Rivet City after Trouble on the Homefront (needs Neutral Karma).
Clover can be bought from Eulogy Jones at Paradise Falls (needs Bad Karma).
Jericho can be recruited in Megaton (needs Bad Karma).
Charon can be bought from Azrukhal in Underworld (no Karma requirement).
Dogmeat can be found in the Scrapyard near Minefield (no Karma requirement).

i have this strange problem where Sergeant RL-3 gets trigger happy when he meets some NPCs (Sierra Petrovita, Rosie and Jericho so far). he costed me a few reloads but there is no better companion so far (and yes, i have Fawkes).

Yes, after completing Trouble on the Homefront he can be recuited at the Muddy Rudder bar in Rivet City.

Fawkes: Something troubling you my friend?

i always picked up Fawkes for the simple reason of him having more HP than the rest and plus he's the ONLY super mutant that you can recruit!

So far 3 have died. It would be 4 but I ended up just reloading not to lose him. Now I get super paranoid whenever their health drops below half.

The ones that died have been Jericho, Butch and Clover (I ended up accidentally killing Butch when returning to the vault and killed Clover during my raid at Paradise falls. Jericho was just killed by a deathclaw). Charon was the one that got killed by surprise suprise: a deathclaw, but I reloaded the save to get him back. Now all that I have left are Charon, Star Paladin Cross, Sergeant RL-3, Dogmeat and Fawkes (the last two are pretty much indestructible).

To me he's indestructible, so I never get why everybody always tells me they're afraid of him dying. I've never seen his health drop below half, even when I'm playing on hard mode. I can just leave him to take down some super mutants on his own, no biggy.

It's just one of the perks you get, but you need the Broken Steel DLC.

Ah. There isn't anything better than running trough the wastes with a super mutant shooting anything that moves with a laser minigun. Nice job!

He sure is trigger happy isn't he, but leaving him to do his thing seems to work out, whatever keeps him happy and well supplied with electron charge packs.
Did lead to a funny moment confronting that gang over water raids in broken steel, I agreed to his one on one fight, Β Fawkes had other plans and proceeded to mow down the entire gang with one volley of Gatling laser fire. But I have to admit his method was probably more effectiveΒ

Yeah.. while you plan to sneak on the bandit camp and silently kill everyone, he run across the camp screaming, and after the fight, that iconic phrase. '' In all things, the calm heart must prevail '' Heh.

chaos-sandwhich In reply to AzureRainfall [2014-12-09 08:35:48 +0000 UTC]
Hehe , very true, I'd almost forgotten some of his ironic dialogueΒ
Then theres the other freindly mutant, Uncle Leo i think his name is, He seems to be a lot more calm than fawkes thoughΒ
π: 0 β©: 1
AzureRainfall In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2014-12-11 14:16:04 +0000 UTC]
Well, i like Uncle Leo. Exiled by the mutants, and a good pacifist. Fallout needs characters like him, eh? I'd like to run around with Butch, but human companions tend to be a little..Β suicidal. Seriously, who goes on a knife fight with a deathclaw?
π: 0 β©: 1
chaos-sandwhich In reply to AzureRainfall [2014-12-11 15:29:35 +0000 UTC]
Oh man thats right, I'd almost forgotten how suicidal they can be.Β
Especially the temporary followers sometimes, The mother ship Zeta ones seemed a bit too aggressive for their own good, and i ended up having to save and reload to get them through it eventually because I was curious what would happen if they survivedΒ
I have to admit I was pretty fond of Sargent RL-3, he was also quite suicidal, but thats down to his programming so not his fault I guessΒ
Enemies can be worse of course, With the DT DAM system in Vegas its funny too because the kitchen knife was never going to get past the T- 51B armor.
And theres that Mugger in the random encounter thats usually quite hilarious if your character happens to be kitted out with enough pre war tech to give a Brotherhood scribe a wet dream Β

Well, i read many experiences about the companions on M:Z. Specially about the samurai. Hunt aliens with a katana? Didn't get the view, because he had a good taste of a Shish-kebab after the cryo. And well, mister gutsy units are agressive by nature. Sadly, didn't play new vegas yet.

If your tempted I highly recommend Fallout New Vegas and its expansions, its a different feel, the desert feeling and being on the fringe of the NCR's new civilisation gives it a bit of a frontier feeling, plus it has a lot of improved game mechanics
But Fallout 3 does feel far more apocalyptic to me though, so In some ways I do prefer itΒ

AzureRainfall In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2014-12-12 03:58:19 +0000 UTC]
I keep waiting fallout discounts on the live (As the expansions, the only have Dead money, and honest hearts.).Β And NCR.. ah. Gives a good feeling, millitaristic faction that reminds you of the army, and the wild west feeling in the Mojave wasteland, might be worth playing.

Not to insult, in fact may be a gargantuan improvement to the usually monotone bastard that is Charon, but he looks so out of it, probably finally hit the jet stash

It would be awesome to draw Uncle Leo, he would wish to give the artist something beautiful as the moon. And he just Β saved me.
By the way, awesome drawing.

Let's see, who has not died because of following me or because I killed them on purpose?
Fawkes? Dead, think it was super mutants that got him.
Star Paladin Cross? Not dead, Yet.
Sergeant RL-3? Never found
Butch? Glitched, but not dead
Clover? Killed while massacring the area
Jericho? Killed by Super Mutants
Charon? Killed by every kind of creature in battle (I use him more often because he's the easiest to get and I like Ghouls more than people)
Dogmeat? Dies ten minutes after I get him.
These people are lucky they don't know me.

I've had it tell me that one of them died (I can't remember which one it was) and then ten minutes later I ran into them. They ended up dying within an hour after that, but it was still weird.

Out of curiosity , what killed Fawkes? So far the only time he ever died in my play through was by the hand, or more accurately, Fire Hydrant of the Behemoth inside the Capitol BuildingΒ

WizzyGameMaster In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2014-12-01 13:09:24 +0000 UTC]
If I remember right, it was either a horde of feral ghouls or just a bunch of super mutants. Not even a behemoth. I think he even survived a behemoth quite awhile before that. I was really shocked about it, because I didn't think he could die.
