Description
Distant descendants of Keris' original earthen golems still wander in the wild places of Equestria. Though their maker has been distant for thousands of years, they continue to follow her last directive. Wherever they roam, they are harbingers of change. In their wake, entire ecosystems are altered, but never destroyed. A riverbed today may be a stark mountainside tomorrow, and a verdant forest the day after. Never has one been slain at the hoof of any pony, alone or in force. They are the place where "unstoppable force" and "immovable object" meet -- the most perfectly designed sentinels ever created. The existence of these mammoth constructs is what has prevented the trappings of "civilized" life from invading the secret places of the world.[Update 11.22.14] -- Now 20% cooler.

"The Earth-Titans' constant earth-shaping the lands of Equestria and beyond eventually raised general alarm for many civilized races as they expand deeper into the wildness of their world. While they are recognized as non-malicious, merely following a directive left to them from their ancestors and the gods countless millennia ago, they are uncaring of how the alterations they caused to the environment affect those who dwell in them as they pursue the directive's execution to the letter.
The activity of the so-called ‘Guardians of the Highlands’ can have detrimental, long-term consequences to both civilized races AND wild-life; the rapid alteration of the environment and eco-systems by these entities, while non-destructive at first, often prove to be too quickly for many organisms to endure, adapt or evolve, resulting in frequent, localized die-offs and extinctions of many species a few years, if not mere months, after land-shaping occurred.
In addition to ecological disasters, their impact on civilized races is equally devastating; many settlements were physically destroyed by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods and other disasters when the Earth-Titans shifted the very land which they stand; and sometimes, by simply unwittingly crushing them to dust under their massive construct hooves. The damage to both agriculture and industry, whether by the sudden transformation of fertile lands and mineral fields to deserts and barren wastelands, to physical destruction of infrastructure, have catastrophic economic impact on entire nations.
The Earth-Titans' constant, unpredictable roaming and activity meant that it is often difficult for both intelligent and non-intelligent species to recover quickly, if at all. As the titans are impervious to all conventional weaponry and magic, cannot establish meaningful communication with intelligent races due to difference in mentality and scale, and possibly incapable of contradicting their directives, they cannot be stopped by any normal means, and if left to continue their activity unchecked, it was feared they could alter the environment to the point it could not sustain industrial civilization or living organisms, potentially endangering the existence of all nations, if not all life, gradually destroying both over centuries, decades, with their imperative to change the landscape.
In a World Council summit, a controversial solution to take out individual Earth-Titans in an emergency was proposed: ‘Operation Stone Burner’.
‘Operation Stone Burner’ is based on a top-secret war plan, code-named ‘Nutcracker', which was developed by the Griffon kingdoms of the Continental Alliance during their half-century cold war with the Qilin Empire and its allies in the Celestial Pact. It was designed originally with the sole objective to destroy the Qilin Imperial military’s central headquarters, the Lion Turtle Fortress, which was widely-considered to be impenetrable to any attack due to being buried beneath Lion Turtle Mountain, under literally kilometers of silicon and quartz. The modified war-plan, renamed Stone Burner, was considered appropriate for use against Earth-Titans, given the fact that the entities are, in essence, giant walking mountains of animated silicon and quartz.
'Operation Stone Burner' involves deploying one to many modified XK-EREBUS inter-continental cruise missiles to attack a destructive Earth-Titan. Two missiles can be deployed from an Alliance V-59 Victory strategic bomber, a Celestial Pact TG-130 Tiangong heavy bomber, or even an Equestrian P-12 Peacemaker bomber, which would travel to its target at speeds of Mach 3, guided by advanced computers and avionics in the front section, and propelled by a scramjet engine powered by a miniaturized thaumic reactor in the missile’s rear section.
As with the standard Continental Alliance XK-EREBUS delivery system, each missile contains 16 city-busting thaumanuclear warheads in their central compartment, which would be ejected upwards from the missiles over the Earth-Titan target as the missile fly by, detonating at point-blank range upon the titans. The missiles would make multiple passes over the target until they have exhausted their payloads, whereupon they would launch themselves at full speed, open their thaumic reactors and dump the molten arcane-matter power rods at their target.
As with Lion Turtle Mountain in the Nutcracker Plan, it is believed the massive, sustained thaumanuclear barrage, with the calculated energies of a dozen hundred mega-tonnes, would be enough the melt through the rock body of an Earth-Titan, disrupting their titanic golem forms and, hoping beyond hope, destroy them outright. For optimal results, it was suggested that two missiles would be deployed against a single Earth-Titan in each operation.
Naturally, it was considered to be a last-resort option, to be executed only in extreme circumstances. Yet the plan was still met with extreme public and political opposition worldwide due to fears over the proposed use of weapons of mass destruction. Among them were the Alicorn Princesses of Equestria, the Dragons, and worshippers of the Church of Keris, all of whom were associated directly or indirectly with Keris, or the earth in general. Many consider any idea to attack the ‘Harbringers of Change’ to be either insane hubris and blasphemy against Keris hersef, regardless of their potential for destructive change; others merely feared the damage such an devastating attack would cause the local environments and the planet itself.
However, all opposition were silenced when the much feared Earth-Titan attack event occurred in the Equestrian Year 1017: Two titans, codenamed Goliath-1 and -2, roamed through heavily populated southern Equestrian and northern Changeling lands, their movement and land-shaping resulting in the destruction of three major cities and up to 2.5 million civilian casualties.
Keris could not be reached for assistance, nor were the Princesses and the Rainbow Wielders available, all due to undiscerned and convoluted reasons. With the understanding that the titans’ projected paths will cause further death and destruction, the Civilized Races were left with little choice. The two Earth-Titans were lured over the Median Sea into a remote, uninhabited region of Saddle Arabian deserts, and when optimal weather conditions to minimize the extent of magical and radioactive fallout were met, the first and so far only Stone Burner operation was conducted..."

(Addendum: XK-EREBUS is based on USAF’s SLAM missile project, which was originally conceived in 1955 to create nuclear-powered supersonic cruise missiles for delivering multiple nuclear warheads to targets in the USSR; though the advent of ICBMs eventually caused its cancellation [ www.merkle.com/pluto/pluto.htm… ]. Operation Stone Burner is based on rumored NATO war plans to destroy the Soviet's Yamantau Mountain top-secret nuclear bunker stronghold. Stone Burner is a type of nuclear weapon from Frank Herbert's Dune space opera franchise)

World-building is a real passion of mine. Thanks.
What do you think of the arguments concerning the threat of the Earthen-Titans? The plan; would it work, do you think? And how would the mortal races and the gods take it if it did?

Thanks.
Like I said, they were ripe for deconstruction.
Did I addressed all the problems? And how's the whole idea of "Operation: Stone Burner"?

Pretty much, I can easily see something like that being developed, even if its use would be costly at those who would use it.

The Earth-Titans, based on the description, was ripe for a deconstruction concerning their behaviour and their impact on the natural world. And I took the 'Never slain by any pony hooves' gist as a challenge.

And you pulled off that deconstruction VERY well--one has to wonder how Keris herself will react when she finds out what happened...

It'll be quite a shock, especially if (note the "IF") the Stone Burner plan works.
Assuming it does...
====
Keris: "I don't know what's more disconcerting: that my Titans have started acting against my designs*, or that the mortals actually managed to destroy two of them. I've turned cities of heretics into playsets and models for attempting actions like this, much less SUCCEEDING. But--no. No; I can't call this act 'blasphemy' if they did this out of desperation, not arrogance. I must speak with Celestia and Luna. The rest of the Pantheon may need to discuss this as well...."
* ((The description mentioned the Earth-Titans "guarding the secret places of the world" and the like, so I'm going with their "shaping" of civilized areas to be an anomoly--hence why Keris didn't play Legos with the masterminds of Stone Burner for destroying her creations...she's just as shocked at the destruction as they are.))

Not fun is it when an unstoppable force of nature destroys civilization, does it? It's not hubris that drives mortals to try and fight nature; it's usually desperation.

One can hope--since they're apparently Obliviously Evil and can't be reasoned with, you have to at least TRY to take these things down...it's only a matter of time before they "play with" another city. And another, and another, and another...
