Long live America and God bless those who truly sacrifice to make this great nation what it is.
'Tis a World War 1 soldier from the cover of a magazine. I couldn't find his name or whether he got to return home or not. If anybody recognizes him from the original photo I'd love to know.
A new (and rather terrifying!) technique for me! I didn't spray enough fixative on the pencils so they got all smeary when I put the oil wash on top.
Lucky for me I got a chance to scan it before my teacher proceeded to highjack my picture and rape it with an eraser. T_T***********
And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done.
We can rest in peace;
'Cause we are the chosen ones:
We made it to Arlington.

The shading is amazing.
I don't know the correct term(Me not being an artist and all), but the way you were able to draw attention right to his eyes which seem to hold you is steller and amazing

Your teacher is a douche. This work is gorgeous. Art is making mistakes and knowing which ones to keep. I'd bitch at any teacher who took it upon themselves to alter my work whether they like my piece or not. But that's just me. LOVELY WORK, DEAR! And the smears are wonderful. They add another dynamic.

He looks just like my grandfather, but it couldn't be. He was in WWII not WWI.
Got a purple heart and had shrapnel in his leg for the rest of his life.

My grandfather got shot in the head in Korea, but it bounced around inside his helmet exited out with hardly any damage. Another inch though, and my whole family wouldn't be here today. Pretty trippy, if you think about it.

I have been drawing a lot of characters from this era of late and it caught my eye. You do such a good job of capturing the emotion in his face. I love the texture that your shading gives this. And I think the smears kind of fit with the theme and the expression.

To me the smearing looks like dirt on his face, as if he is fresh from a battle. Great job on this, even if your teacher did rape it with an eraser later.
So many soldiers would like to hear just those two small words for serving. But many of them just get nast looks. I've heard of some being spit on.

It does.
What makes it worse is I know a vet from the Iraq & Afghanistan war. He was shot in the line of duty and was given the Purple Heart as well as a Bronze Star, for saving another's life. He gave the medals to his mother and told her, "You can have them because I don't want them. You can get them in pawn shops for practically nothing. No one cares what I've done."
I couldn't help hugging him and telling him that I care.
