Description

How to fix a plushie, shop-bought or home-made. It happens. They break. So here’s how to fix ‘em.

If you share, please link back to me, it’s only polite.

A big shout-out to poor Mr Gollophogus, struggling with his hip injury. (he’s the first plush I ever made, badly, entirely hand sewn. He has many flaws. But he is still beautiful and precious.) And a shout-out to for sharing the pattern for him all those moons ago.

And then....there is performing surgery on your dog's toys where you are lucky if you even have a straight line. Then you pray over the animal and you stitch it as well as you bloody well can with whatever stitch holds up best (in my case, the blanket stitch and backstitch hold up best to little terrier jaws.) With toys for the NFP....I need work on this stitch. >.> This tutorial is quite handy.

Ahh, dog toys. Ours likes to pull the limbs off and the stuffing out, he's quite thorough about it.

This stitch does help discourage them from picking at the seam. Alfie just tries to undo the blanket stitch...

Weirdly, some of his toys are too sacred to disembowel, whereas others he does in minutes. Dogs are funny things.

HA HA HA, when Zena was younger, there wasn't a stitch you could use that would stop her from disemboweling, decapitating, or amputating squeaky toys to get to the squeaker. I played surgeon for about eight years. Now she's said adieu to taking the living stuffing out of her toys (she's a little senior old lady now) and she takes to driving us mad by finding hiding spots for her favorite toy - a golden puppy that was once, uh, mine. She stole it from me. I gave up trying to reclaim it after she stole it for the tenth time.

Terriers. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. They keep you on your toes.

In surgery, it's called running subcuticular suture

Oooooh! A new thing learned today. Maybe I'll adopt surgery terms for all sewing XD

...but it's probably best if I stick to plushies....

Thank you one of my plush toys had a small tear in it and I put new stuffing in it and stitched it like this. Very helpful! :3

When I was a kid, I would buy broken plushes from thrift stores, take them home, and stitch them back together! If only I had this tutorial back then, haha. I will definitely remember all this for next time I need it, thank you so much.

You healed them! You are their saviour!

....unless you're like Cid from Toy Story... *eyes suspiciously*

Thank you for making this! My dog has this really bad habit of mauling his plushies until they break (and then he eats their innards, awesome XD) This will be very helpful to all the plushies that had fallen victims of my dog

This is great! It will definitely come in handy sometime. If/when my wombat's leg comes undone again, I'll know what to do. Thank you for creating and sharing this tutorial.

He suffers, he really does. And my dog sometimes tramples him down to sleep in him.

Awesome tutorial - you actually saved me a lot of work xD I'll send it to everyone who asks me how to fix a plushie :3

Also, I think I recognize the pattern of Mr Gollophogus. If it's from a certain Katy-A , then it was the first plushie I made, too

dot-DOLL In reply to Fenmar [2016-09-21 18:41:42 +0000 UTC]

Good! I get asked a bit too, so it seemed sensible XD

I think it was indeed Katy-A's pattern! Next time I'm on my PC I'll try to remember to add at in the description (app won't let you edit GRRR)
