Description Okay, I have no idea if "thread sulpting" is the correct term, but here's how I change "herpyderpy" plushies to "heybaybey" plushies.

Plush used in the example is, of course, Kjorn. He's all hand sewn and hand embroidered, as all my tuts focus on hand-work over costly machines.
The main tut book is still progressing, and the first pattern is getting there.Β

That description.Β πŸ‘ŒΒ

I'll def try to get my plushies outta Herpyderpy Valley and into the exalted Heybaybey Land. This'll be handy to keep in mind, though the title made me think it was gonna be about more than just the face. That said, the face is one of the worst parts to be derpy, so this tut's great!Β

I have a question for my current WIP. My plushie has kind of a big snout, and even though I cut the head to have an indent between, the snout hangs a little too far away from the rest of his face. Is there a way to give my plushie a sort of face lift so that his snout is a bit closer to his face? Sorry, I realize this is a bit complex Lol. Thanks for an awesome tutorial!

Hi! I'd love to help, but my brain presently just won't visualise what your describing XD Do you have any pics you could show me? I think I know what you mean, and I have a few suggestions...

Lol No problem. I wasn't exactly clear with my issue. Anyways, I uploadedΒ a picture Β of his head. What I am trying to do, is bring the bottom half (his snout) up a little so that it doesn't look so far away from his face. I plan to make some definition between his snout and face but not sure how that'll happen yet either. Thanks so much for the help!!Β

This was really well written! I've seen a lot of tutorials on thread sculpting but I could never get it right. I like your emphasis on subtlety and working the tension slowly rather than pulling too tightly from the beginning. All really solid advice!

I used to be quite rough with it, but some plushies would end up a bit bog-eyed, and it's really hard to unpick and loosen!

Not only is it clear, but you've included what most leave out. The "why" of the how. Plus the little tips, like when to create more tension and how much. It's incredibly helpful.

Knowing why to do a thing makes understanding a thing so much easier.

Plus your tips are geared towards making quality plushies, rather than doing it fast, which is especially appreciated.

Keep it up!

Yes, quality! I don't see the point - at all - in rushing anything just to make quick tosh. If you're going to make these things for someone, make them slowly and carefully so they can treasure it always!

Indeed! Or for yourself, for that matter. A late present made with real care will always be better than an on time or early present that falls apart.

Seriously, the first time I saw doll needles I thought they were a joke. You could kill people with them. if ever the house is broken into, sod the knives, I'm off to the sewing room. Safest place in the house!

Like I said, probably not the best technical term, but I guess they use it on account of the needles used. Like you said, you could kill someone with 'em. I actually got some 5" doll needles recently thinking I may (still) need them for my biped ponies, but not yet. If the plushiesΒ get bigger, then I'd definitely need them.
