Description Despite being a 3 piece loco it still follows typical design characteristics, making this the No. 1 end. The electrical cabinet and other electrical bits are still at the front and the radiators are still at the back, just much more spaced out.

But without any more rambling this is the 'electrical unit' of the 3, it holds the batteries, electrical cabinet, dynamic brake grids for the whole unit (hence the huge set of grilles near the back of it, enough to take the power of 18 traction motors) and a big bank of inverters and rectifiers. 1 inverter and rectifier is provided per bogie and the rectifiers are stacked on top of the inverters (hence the 6 fine grilles above the 6 pairs of doors in the middle). Last but not least the second door back from the cab is the #1 end toilet and underneath next to the battery boxes there is one of 4 fuel tanks.

The cab on that thing reminds me of my favorite rebuilt American locomotive, the SD60E.

You're welcome!   I do live near NS owned tracks and I never seen one in person yet, but I'll still hoping.

Well then, you've just got to keep your eyes open. I'm not that familliar with US train working practices but I imagine one will make its way there sooner or later

I've been doing that a lot, even though I saw mostly GE Dash 9's on the NS.

Eh, GE's can get a bit boring after a while. Even here in Aus they tend to all look pretty simmilar (Save for a handful of types from the 80's when loco's were interesting)
