It had been two days, two long, excruciating days of wandering all alone. Minos was quickly losing hope of ever seeing his dear herd again. Danae had been right and he had been a fool, as usual. He hadn’t found the water he thought he’d heard and he’d gotten lost, exactly what Danae said would happen. Minos walked slowly through the thick brush, he was tired and hungry. He’d managed to wander away from the grassy plains and the ground was all muddy now. He perked his ears hopefully as he noticed the bushes breaking up ahead, he sped up and finally left the poky leaves and entered a muddy clearing. There were a few sparse patches of grass and Minos rushed over and started grazing hungrily.

A few minutes later a strange whine broke the still air, Minos started, his head flew up and ears tensing forward. It was unlike any cry he’d ever heard before. He took a few steps backward, thinking quickly whether to run or not. The cry was coming from the other side of the clearing, from somewhere in the giant brush patch ahead. He was about to turn and head back the way he’d come when the thing let out another cry, it sounded quite pitiful and Minos halted. What if it wasn’t a threat? What if it was just some little creature that was hurt or needed help? He’d feel terrible with something like that weighing on his mind.

With a burst of courage, the stallion began walking warily towards the brush, he reached the edge of the branches and looked in closely, he could hear the cries drawing closer but nothing was visible. Minos tried to not make a sound as he began squeezing through the branches, his ears flicked around, guiding him toward the creature. The bushes ahead suddenly moved and Minos halted in his tracks, eyes widening. There it was.
