I never said my characters are based of off classic cartoons they are based off of nothing but my own ideas. I merely said since I hate anime style I don't do chibis I do toon style but that's so irreverent.

Tribute or not, it's totally uncalled for, because no one knows the fine line between tribute or inspiration and theft. No one has the right mind to ask the original artist, "hey may I make an OC inspired by yours?" because they think it's okay to do it regardless. If someone made an OC that was extremely similar to any of mine or my friends characters, I'd get annoyed. And it has happened before. If it was just one thing, say, my OC is a cowgirl and someone else wanted to make a cowgirl OC because of me, then they can do it by all means. But if they made said cowgirl OC with a similar personality, physical appearance and back story to mine, then I'd get angry. They need to know where the line is and make sure not to cross it.

Wait a second. You're comparing character ripoffs to pose referencing?
Those are two VASTLY different fields. Referencing is okay, I can get that. But how can claiming ownership to a character that obviously isn't yours possibly be okay? Characters take time to design. Poses are universal; specific characters are not. Sure you can take inspiration from things, but outright stealing large design elements is theft.
For example, I once designed a character based on Hatsune Miku. However, she looked almost exactly like her. THAT IS THEFT.
I have since revamped her design so that she is blue rather than green, has a ponytail rather than pigtails, and her outfit is much simpler. THAT IS INSPIRATION.
On the other hand, now I see where you're coming from. Unfortunately, your logic is so off that I want to grind my head into a brick wall.

Secondly, if people are stealing what I created in the first place, it's a poor and selfish way to have their own fun. It makes an artist feel ripped off, and, as another person said, it's very disrespectful. You need to get that through your thick skull. Do yourself a favor, stop being an idiot, duct tape your mouth shut and mosey on over back to your corner of the internet, because clearly you can't handle when someone has a different opinion than you.
