Finally, 30+ hours and a nervous breakdown later a brand spankin' new piece is ready for submission. I actually finnished Saturday, but decided to submit after the holiday, even though most of my fans here are not American.

Before anyone asks: No I haven't seen Donnie Darko, and Yes it is on my list of movies to see.

11x14 paper, which turns out is a lot of space to fill up with a micron pen.

Awesome. I love work like this. I'm hard at work on my own, but I don't think they'll ever reach this level, despite my desperate love of ballpoint work (though I'm sure you used far more tools than I do - all I ever use is a single pen). Beautiful work. kudos!

A truly stunning piece, i just wanted to say that i am in awe of anyone who can create such images. That goes double 'cause it's with a pen, i think you must have been insane in the first place to do it. ^.^ (As are all of you artists who start with pens. They scare me. =0Þ) What really caught me though, were her eyes, something about them just appeals to me, lots. I spent a ton of time just staring at her face and those fascinatingly drawn eyes. And i wanted to thank you for sharing your talent, the only thing better than to be able to see such lovely work in its finished form is watching it being born.

Gnarly, wicked, and quite comforting. This is my 1st time to see your work and I am quite impressed....I will be keeping an eye open to your easel for from it flows life and death and all in between This feat is not an easy one to achieve. Hats off to you and may all bow down and pay hommage.

Donnie darko wasn't that great of a movie. If I could see one last thing in life, before a Russian soldier put a bullet through my head, side by side Hope and Donnie Darko.....I'd pick HOPE. Donnie Darko IS nearly 2 hours long, and would at least allow me to live longer, but at least my mind would be entertained by viewing something acutally worth seeing with my eyes : "hope" A very awesome piece. Patience pays off, huh?

I had a well written critique done for this just now. It had a well thought out criticism along with thoughts on the well done elements of the piece. Then I double checked something and was completely blown away at how naive I was when I first saw this. Not only did I not realize that the rabbit is a spirit but I also discovered that he could be chained to anything. Seeing as he's a spirit, this means that there may be other elements that the chains are connected to, I didnt see this at first. Also, I took another look at how much detail is in this.. It blew me away. The texture on the tombstone, as well as the strong metallic look of the chains, the texture of the fur, and the soft, gentle expression on both faces in the midst of all the harsh extremities all combines with other spectacular part of this picture to create a very successful piece. Extremely well done, no smudges, or ink blots to shatter the effect, and the sky, while I'm not crazy about the style of the clouds, couldn't have been done any better. I believe nothing in this takes away from anything else. I dont want to go overboard with the comments, because then we'd have ourselves a "nay-sayer" in the group who'd try to negate everything I've just said; solely because they would be a complete jerk looking for some type of attention. That is not something we want now is it? One final note, regardless that I am going to check the rest of your gallery out so I can get hopefully learn something about pen and ink, is that I would rate this on a scale of 1 to 10, but this goes way beyond a rating; However if I had rated this I would most certainly give it a 10. Excellent work!

*note* sorry for the longer critique but I have not done a well thought attempt at professional critique for a while and this piece presented the opportunity.

Sorry it took me such a long time to reply. I actually read through all the comments I get so I just unburied this and I really appreciate you taking the time to write up such a well thought out critique. Unfortunately that is something I rarely see on DA. So really thank you for taking the time to write it out and thank you for the compliments.

Hey no problem man, it was a good piece to critique.. I just now got to read your reply, and I was thinking to myself, "wait, theres a mistake on there somewhere?". Wow, it must be a very small mistake because I looked at it for a while and I couldn't tell.. Maybe thats because I'm not too familiar on the subject of Pointalism.. Is that like Stiple or is it very different? Anyway, if you give me a link somehow to the critique I made, I'd appreciate it. I want to review what I wrote so I can get better at it. Oh and if you ever need a good critique again like that, just let me know and I'd be happy to review your work.

Pointilism is actually a term used for painting using dots of paint, whereas stippling can refer to drawing or painting. Since I didn't use any paint in this picture I can assume what he meant and far be it for me to correct anyones art terminology since I have very little formal fine art training myself.

I will send you the critique you gave me in your notes, then you can do whatever you want with it.

GraphixzArtist In reply to dpdagger [2005-08-14 01:51:52 +0000 UTC]

ahh thank you very much, I just reread the critique and was disappointed to find a small spelling error. I do not think a simple typo like that really killed the critique though.. Thank you again for sending it, and no I did not mind at all that it was in a note - long as the whole thing was there; which it was. Thanks again

GraphixzArtist

p.s. Just in case, and you probably already know this, but if you want to give a good looking critique, don't use abbreviations or contractions. You probably already knew that but still, I thought I'd make an honorable mention of it.
