Fergus has never been a particularly cuddly person. And he’s even less so now than he was when he was a kid. He’s pretty shy about cuddling in general. Unless he’s feeling strong emotions, hugging generally will feel awkward to him. He’s pretty gruff in the ways he shows affection. Part of that comes from his cultural upbringing, and part of that comes from his own bad experiences. A pat on the back, a rough tap on the head or ruffling someone’s hair is the usual display of fondness for Fergus.

But while physical intimacy makes him uncomfortable, Fergus is still a compassionate person deep down. He may not like hugs, but he’ll tolerate them occasionally depending on the person or situation.

Nule is a miserable, little orphan in need of a lot of squishing and snuggling. So for his sake, Fergus does it. and almost likes it… sometimes. He likes Nule, and that's whats important...

And here had sad eyes, and wouldn’t stop looking at him with them. And he already has some tender feelings towards humans in general. So he consented.

That’s how things go with Fergus. If he hugs someone, its generally more for their benefit than for his own.
