Years ago, in the days before the Brass Tower fell in flame, there was a great thief within Ecruteak City. There was no lock he could not pick, no hidden treasure he could not find, and no man who could spot him under the cover of night. Nothing was safe from his greed. Money, jewels, even Pokemon…if he wanted it, then it would certainly vanish while the city slept.
One day, his gaze fell upon a sage’s Girafarig. He couldn’t place what it was about this Pokemon, but he simply had to have it. Night fell, and the thief made his move. He crept into Tin Tower, and found the Girafarig asleep on a mat, with its Pokeball nearby. He quietly withdrew the Pokemon, and made a silent escape with his prize in hand.
Upon his return, he called the Long Neck Pokemon out from its ball. It did not recognize the man before it, and immediately let out a loud call. The thief had to scramble to return it to its Pokeball, fearing it would draw attention. With a shrug, he set the ball aside and settled down to rest. However, he was suddenly hit with a strong migraine. Almost paralyzed by the pain, he looked toward the Pokeball to see it glowing brightly. The Girafarig was lashing out from within, striking at the one who had taken it.
The thief crawled towards the Pokeball, clutching his skull in pain. Taking it in hand, he readied a blade, and released the angered Girafarig. Before it could react, he thrust the blade into its chest. The Pokemon went limp, and finally fell, its psychic barrage fading. In a panic, the thief gathered the body and ball, and rushed into the woods surrounding Ecruteak. Hastily, he dug a hole for the body and tossed it in, smashing the Pokeball before beginning to bury the Girafarig. Suddenly, his body locked up, and the migraine returned. The body was glowing faintly, and the thief ran back to the city, wanting desperately to get away from his crime.
Dawn came to find the city alive with rumors and gossip. The sage had made the town aware of his missing Pokemon, and they all new that it had to be the work of this mystery burglar. The thief himself simply breathed a sigh of relief. The pain was gone, and he was still in the clear. Days went by, and soon, the city seemed to move on, and the thief was finally able to start his work again.
Shortly after he went back to his nightly work, he began to feel as if something was watching him on those nights. The air would seem denser, and his body felt heavier, but he simply shrugged it off as exhaustion. Each night it got worse, and he could swear something had been following him on his sprees. Finally it grew so that each night, he would find himself barely able to move, and simply stayed in bed.
One morning, he awoke to find an angry crowd outside his door. Startled, he looked down to see a shattered Pokeball and a bloodied knife lay on his doorstep. Fear swept over him, and once more, he was paralyzed by a migraine. As the angry crowd descended on him, pushing in to find the various things that had been stolen, the thief looked towards the woods to find a Pokemon standing in view. One head glared at him, one head seemed to cackle, and it gave off a familiar glow.
