Description
THIS IS OLD PLEASE REFER TO THE NEW REF SHEET dragimal.deviantart.com/art/Diβ¦this is my first open species/adoptable thing, so hopefully I'm doing this right, aha. based off of this guy, Risk dragimal.deviantart.com/art/Riβ¦ , I submitted to a character contest a while back (he doesn't completely fit the species description, since I updated it while I was making it, so base species stuff off of this, and not him)
if ya want to use this species to make new characters and such, all ya have to do is give me proper credit for creating the species (yes, u can even sell adoptables, if u want, just, again, remember the credit to me). in any of these instances, plz link me to the characters/adoptables so I can see them cus' I'd love to see them!! OvO
extra species info-
-diet- omnivorous scavenger. they basically eat anything that's dead and/or dying (such as a rotting tree). the prehensile tongue is used to help tear apart their meals
-senses-
~sight- more heat-oriented than light-oriented. mostly see the world as colorful splotches of temperature-varied forms (before anyone asks, they differentiate paint colors by how they interact w/ light rays and gain heat. IE- black is hotter than white)
~smell- very sensitive. olfactory sensors found within the ridges of the mouth/throat.
~hearing- varies among individuals.
~touch- they feel very little when it comes to pressure (and, as such, have a high pain tolerance when it comes to bodily damage along these lines), but are extremely sensitive to temperature changes. temperature preferences vary among individuals, and their physical/emotional pleasures revolves heavily around their temperature preferences (basically, if u know what temp. a Divalve likes, and u can provide them w/ that temp., they're your new best friend)
~taste- not very strong, and only actually useful in relation to scent.
-hermaphroditic in that they carry both eggs and sperm. around mating season, the Divalves gather and each make a temporary nest where they lay a clutch of around 4-5 small eggs (about the size of that main Divalve's eye-holes, up there, in comparison to the body). these eggs are soft and pliable, so the Divalves must be very careful and delicate w/ them. once the eggs are secure, the Divalves wander around the different nests, evaluating each nest of eggs, and deciding which one(s) they might like to raise. they usually choose one or two (though, they may not even choose any, and just leave after they contribute their batch of eggs), then proceed to gently tear a small hole in the egg's covering and insert their sperm. the unfertilized eggs that aren't chosen are simply left to scavengers (so, considering they're scavengers, they often eat their own unfertilized eggs). young are then raised by a single parent
-on that above hermaphroditic note, the great majority consider their gender neutral or non, though some who have interacted w/ other species who have multiple sexes may have other gender expressions (such as Risk up there)
-about the size of a medium-sized dog (can vary to large-sized or semi-small)
-exothermic, yet their survival/metabolism does not hinge upon body temp. in the same way it does for other animals (they kinda break the laws of physics, here). depending on their preferences, they will choose environments that suit their pleasures (whether it be a hot, cold, or varying temp. environments). their fins help in regulating their body temp.

Ayo, I'm currently working on a Divalve character, and I'll send the link to you once I'm done so you can approve or not.

ahh I'm so glad! I was hoping at least someone else might find interest in them, b/c I don't rly plan on doing much w/ them besides the occasional pic or two
I was actually thinking of editing the mouth structure a bit so that it opened a little more 'realistically', with the skull halves sliding backwards over the cranium rather than pushing outward. I originally didn't want to design their opening that way b/c I figured the ears would be in the way, but I've recently thought it might be work if there was extra folded skin between the ears and skull halves, so the halves would just swipe over the ears and force them to fold back against the cranium. I thought it might be an interesting trade-off-- they can't eat unless they temporarily sacrifice their hearing
(sorry for the ramble, not too many ppl are interested in these guys and I kinda got excited lmao)

it's alright! if you have gone through my gallery, you'd see that I'm a creature-maker-fanatic ! I love realistic creature concepts! Or just alien concepts--
anyway, I love the idea! And for the fins, are they swamp native or sea native?? : oo I really like these creatures !!
I don't mind you rambling, tbh it's really interesting to read how you think of your creatures! It makes me want to look at my own bijilion-( don't actually know how many creats i have, i just have many- most of which I haven't even uploaded)-
creatures and see what I can update !

haha I can see that now! I'm rly diggin the flow of your lines, it rly brings out the character in ur creatures!
hmmm y'know I never rly planned out their habitat. I don't think they'd be fully aquatic, what with their legs and all. I'd imagine they'd make for good coastal critters tho, diggin around in sand beds and tidepools for rotting materials. considering their attractions to diverse sets of temperatures, I wouldn't consider swamp or ocean more or less fit for them
ahhh I'm glad you find it interesting! your interest has inspired me to do an updated ref of them actually-- hopefully I can whip it up fairly quickly! I'm planning out ways to allow them more diverse body structures, to give the designs more freedom. as for the fins, I'm not certain exactly what you're asking? I don't remember giving them more than one set of fins, but I could be wrong

Oh! I remember reading somewhere that there where four sets of fins, but i could be very wrong-
As for what i meant, ive already drawn sketches, so i can show you later today, and than you can give your approval : >
I'd imagine that they'd live near waterholes in warm lands or atleast large bodies of water f.e a beach?? They'd easily be able to get accesories from all the washed up stuff??
i am a huge nerd for stuff like this
btw im writing on my pho e and it sucks

OH I think that was saying that there could be 4 spines holding up the webbing on the fins. on the new ref, the boney-type fins can have 1-5 spines, but the cartilage-type can have a lot more
oh yeah I like the idea that they'd collect washed-up debris from the ocean, like dirty little pack rats lmao
