Description Something I've been intending to finish since a long time, and finally decided to complete today. I suppose it's more of a practice than anything else.

done with watercolours (though it looks like acrylics)

It's a violin scroll.

I'm glad you like it!

Well I do think it's beautiful! I've always loved this part of stringed instruments, and that bird is very well done, too!

Thank you! I love scrolls as well, they're so sophisticated.

no te puedo dar una buena critica porque no sΓ© dibujar ni para salvar mi vida, pero me gustΓ³ el diseΓ±o, principalmente la ideia. Es el tipo de escena que mi abuelo colgarΓa en su pared.

Love it! I don't know how the little guy manages to keep his place on the violin scroll, but I'm going to suspend my belief anyway because it's so whimsically charming. There's an air of what I can only describe as "casual indifference" to the bird, as though he doesn't really care what he's perching on or who's looking (or maybe he does, and that's just a calculated pose...). His shade of turquoise goes really well with the rich reds of the violin.

This reminds me that I really need to get back to finishing your picture. D'oh! Sorry for the long wait.

Thanks, Far!!
Actually, I have no idea how he perched there either; maybe he's the narcissistic type, and shall quit the violin scroll... nevermore!

Btw, I just got a new Asian math professor, and he's got us running like a hare! (sorry, couldn't help making the association with you ) Then I remembered you told me that your mates went to you for help back then.. Gaah, too bad you're so far!

And hey, I didn't even think you'd remember. Awesome people are always excused from delays though.

Asian professors! LOL. You seem to get them by the bucketful.

And no, I haven't forgotten. It's just that things are still really crazy here with my mother out of action, so all artistic endeavours have taken a backseat to everything else. Sorry about that.

yeah, but they're cute, so I don't mind.

I know, Far, you don't even have to say it! I was just enthusiastic about giving you something you'd like. The rest would be a bonus.

Is she doing better now?

You fail badly at making watercolors look like watercolors. In THIS case, it's an extremely good thing!
How did you manage to get so much detail with watercolors?!?!

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-02-19 23:13:04 +0000 UTC]

Haha, thanks? yeah, for some reason, I keep adding layers instead of letting water drip from the brush and moist the paper.

Btw, I'm planning to make a painting soon similar to your style... and maybe then I'll use acrylics. I mean, why keep draining the wrong tubes, right?

Dragonfly22 In reply to rogercastoro [2010-02-17 23:05:15 +0000 UTC]

piano exam, eh? what piece was it? I'm working on Rachmaninoff atm.
His op.23 no.5 prelude. Heh, quite a piece.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rogercastoro In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-02-17 23:38:58 +0000 UTC]

wow! Rachmaninoff is cool!
for that exam i have to study 2 english suites (the II and the III) and 3 sinfonias by JS Bach
a romantic or modern piece -> Chopin valzer op64 n2
3 clavier pieces -> i have Lulli Scaraltti and Zipoli
13 studies -> Cramer Bettini Czerny Pozzoli
a sonata -> Clementi Sonata op.17 "La Caccia"
and obviously...all the scales

so much pieces and so little time

oh god, they burried you in notes! It's almost the repertoire for a recital. o_o
I really like that Chopin valse and Czerny is pretty awesome, so at least they're things one might enjoy along the (painful) process.

You can do it!

No puedo darte una critica porque no tengfo membresia. Pero pues me gusta esta pintura. Como unica critica pienso que quizas debiste a~adirle mas capas de pintura al ave. El instrumento se ve muy bien trabajado. Nice
