Description
Finished my next character poster while on vacation, so here I am posting it the day I get back! So, one issue I often have is that when I describe a character in writing, the image I have in my head seems perfectly reasonable, but then I try to draw it out and I'm quickly like.....how do I make this look good?
So, yeah. Here she is! Let me know what you think!
Some may notice that her tail blade in the full body shot doesn't match the one I put in Chinook's poster. While drawing it, I decided I liked this way a lot better.
Also, no, the full body shot isn't supposed to be a rip-off of Dark Spyro. It's just what happens when she decides to go all-out with her shadow abilities.

Ooooh, she looks like she is just notΒ bothered in that headshot. Nice to finally see her in the scales!
One question, are those second and thirds sets of blades on the wings there all the time, or are they a results of her shadow powers? The glowing eyes are a nice touch too, and I love her head markings. Makes a compelling case for Cynder being a shadow dragoness naturally.Β
Anyway, awesome stuff!

I kind of figured you might be interested in this one. Glad you like it!
No, they aren't natural. Purely shadow. I read in a couple of other fanfictions some time ago people having shadow dragons enhancing their claws with shadow blades or similar, and I kind of liked that idea so here's my version. It's not her only trick, but it's one she'll make a lot of use of in future chapters.
Thanks again!

: Good to see good enigma...with her combat readiness and her calm attitude...or indiference if we see it from a different angle .
Blue....is the best sir, It mix perfect with everything. Rare combination I tell you ^^ , I see with magenta , white , grey, silver ,deep green for associate with poison dragon but blue is the chosen one for her....good decision

Thanks! Seems like her colour combination is a hit so far. I'm definitely happy with how it worked out.

When I first read Enigma's dialogue, I imagined her having the voice of Raven from Teen Titans (the cartoon). Β Now, I can see she has physical characteristics similar to Raven's as well (including her beauty).

This is awesome as usual. Nothing but good things to say of your work, but something that Β I prefer is, headshots drawn from the front. Or at least so it shows more than just half of their face. It is harder and slower to draw, but I personally think they are cooler. And also, if you want Enigma's shadow usage to look something different from Spyro in his dark form, maybe you could have drawn her sinking into the shadows. Like a pool where she is slowly disappearing. These are just my opinions, what you could have made differently. But then again, its awesome like this too.Β Β

Thank you.
I understand what you mean with the headshots, but I had done more direct angles for the two previous so I through some variety would work here, plus it just worked for her expression I found. As for the shadow effects, a good suggestion, but I wanted to show something other than the standard shadow move from the game. I like the idea of it being used as a physical enhancement (the blades) rather than just for stealth and surprise attacks.
I appreciate you sharing your opinion though, and thanks for the comment!

I wondered when someone would get to doing a colour combination of blue and black...personally, it is a colour combination that is a favourite of mine!
Enigma is black and blue. How did I not read that!? Great drawing!!!! I'm personally not sure about the background - maybe it's just my unprofessional-ness showing but I'm just not sure about the background with Enigma's colour combination...but I do admit that it fits her quite a bit. Well, I can't seem to offer any alternative so I must just be an idiot.
I admit, that tail blade looks quite lethal, I don't know how she doesn't ever manages to hurt Chinook with that thing.
Drawing-wise, it looks really good - I think the angle you used for the full body shot is a good choice and the headshot also looks good.
Great job on this!

I like it as a combination, yeah. I think it works well for her.
I originally thought about a cooler palette for the background colours, but my sister pointed out that it didn't contrast well with Enigma's colours and made her harder to see, so I tried this instead.
Chinook is definitely risking his safety when he provokes her, yes.
Thanks a lot!

Enigma is not amused.Β
For some reason that blank space between the full-body shot and the headshot is bugging me way more than it probably should. I feel like you could have at least made the headshot bigger so it fills more of the space. I feels kind of...empty.
That aside, this is awesooome~ I really like her horns and the colours. Nice effect with the shadowy stuff, too.
I notice there's a few jagged spiky black protrusions on her wings, shoulder and tail... Are they actually part of her body or constructs of her shadow power?

DragonMaster000 In reply to MissRiverstyxx [2014-08-06 22:30:46 +0000 UTC]
You just had to mention the space, didn't you? Now I can't stop seeing it! Kidding aside, it is a good point. I'm just afraid if I resize something GIMP will loose quality on it, so maybe I'll just make sure to avoid it next time.
They are indeed shadow constructs. They would probably be too much in the way if they were actual parts of her body.
Glad you like it!

I sorry~ Curse you, GIMP!
Well, you could always try it and see if it does lose quality. Photoshop is usually pretty good to me on that regard, but I dunno about GIMP.
I thought so.

Kinda looks like she could be Cynder's long lost twin. Without the magenta.Β

Cool. I was going for a resemblance (you may recall I mentioned it in chapter one of Snare), so glad to know that it shows. They're definitely not long lost twins, though.
