UPDATE: May 13th, 2012 I have updated the image to fix how terrible Dan looked in the background. To see the old version, go here: [link]About time (seems appropriate at the moment, anyway) I did a fanart of my favorite superhero. Meet the Blue Beetle...all of them. Which is my favorite? Do I have to choose?
The guy in the background is Dan Garrett, the first Blue Beetle. He had about five different origin stories(and in fact was initially just a cheap knock-off of the Green Hornet. Get it? Green Hornet? Blue Beetle? Fox Publications, you were so subtle), but we seem to pretty much have settled on this. He was an archaeologist studying a tomb when he came across a strange beetle scarab. Upon uttering the magic words: Khaji Da, he was granted a scale mail armor costume and superpowers.
I can't really recommend too much with him in it, since although he was Blue Beetle for a very long time, it was mostly with a pretty crappy company and I don't think any of it's been collected in trades.
The guy in the foreground in the lighter costume is Ted Kord. He was Garrett's student, and asked for his mentor's help in uncovering a dangerous plot that ended up killing the first Blue Beetle. Ted Kord took up the mantle, but the scarab never worked for him. Without access to superpowers, he had to rely on his agility and hi-tech gadgets in a fight. He was more brain than brawn, but he was pretty tough too.
And if you're thinking he looks kind of like Spiderman in that pose, that's intentional. Ted Kord was created by Steve Ditko, co-creator of Spiderman, and shared a lot of similarities with the wall-crawler. Enough so that Marvel threated to sue over it at one point.
But written right, he was his own, awesome character. If you want to see him in action, I'd recommend his initially comics done by Ditko, but they're only available in a hardcover trade which also collects a couple of other Charlton Heroes. For the more casual reader, I'd point to the JLI minis: "Formerly Known as the Justice League" and "I Can't Believe it's Not the Justice League". They're pretty easy to find - and fun! Though they're meant as comedy, so don't take them too seriously.
After Kord's death, the scarab falls into the hands of Jaime Reyes, who has no connection to either of the previous two. He wakes up one morning to find the scarab is fused to his spine where it starts talking to him and grants him the armor along with a wide array of abilites. Turns out the scarab isn't magic at all, it's broken alien tech, and Khaji Da isn't a magic word, it's the scarab's name. Confused, Jaime decides to learn more about his predecessors, and gains knowledge of the scarab from Garrett and knowledge of how to fight from Kord.
I won't get too much more into it, I'll just say, track down his "Blue Beetle" series. It's all out in trade and it is AWESOME! Seriously some of the best comics I've ever read. It turned me into a drooling fangirl anyway. Seriously. Buy it.
I kind of love how different they all are. Normally legacy heroes are pretty similar from generation to generation, these guys are kind of fascinating and I love them. About 80 - 80% of the DC stuff I own relates to my love of them somehow.
This was a TON of fun to draw and ink and color. I've been meaning to do it for ages, but finally got up the gumption. I'm especially proud because the two in the foreground were drawn using my action figures as references. Figures that can't do poses like that. I'm pretty pleased with myself.

There's so much cool art in your gallery! On the DC fan fiction site I write for, we're always looking for covers to go on our stories, and I'd love to get your permission to use your art on our site? We'd of course credit you and link back to your DeviantArt! Next year we're launching a Blue Beetles book starring Ted and Jaime, and this would be perfect for that!

Nice work on the Beetle Family. I have gotten all of the trade backs and love them. Jaime was the reason I started getting into comics. I hope they restart his series soon...

Amen to that, my friend. At least he's FINALLY started doing stuff in Generation Lost...y'know, 4 issues from the series end. Bleh. Ah well, it's great to know there are so many fellow fans out there! BB is what got me into DC comics, since I buy anything with any of the three Beetles in it. The first Beetle story I ever read was Ted's death, and he impressed me so much that I had to go back and find all his past appearances, and when the new series started, I got it and fell in love!
He's a pretty big character at the moment, I'm still stunned that awesome series sold as poorly as it did.
Thanks, though, I'm glad you enjoyed the pic!

The series sold poorly because the Ted fans refuse to acknowledge Jaime as the Beetle so a line was drawn. And I also look for anything with Blue Beetle in it, even if it's just a cameo in a single panel in the background. I can't wait for his and Booster's appearance on Smallville.

"Though they're meant as comedy, so don't take them too seriously. "
I like to threat my comedy seriously
Ha!
Sorry, just pickin' on that line. Why can't the world accept some light entertainment and fun? Do all things need to be gritty these days?...
Humpf...
Anyway, FANTASTIC work!
I love 'em all!
Jaime already won his place in this legacy, only some grumpy non-readers complain online!
Go Team Beetle!
It's great! Dynamic!
I'd love to see a modern story featuring either Ted or the original, Dan. And without resorting to gimmick-ysh resurrections. More like a "Year One" story, like they did with Green Arrow, Robin, Batgirl, etc..!
Oh and Jaime should totally have a new on-going book! Who's with me?! XD

Oh, man, I actually totally agree with you. GIVE ME LIGHTHEARTED COMICS! That was half of what made Jaime's solo series so awesome - it was fun to read!
In my defense, the purpose behind adding that warning is just to make sure people are aware it's comedy - because in full comedies, characters are often distilled to one or two major traits, and we don't get the full gamut of their awesome. I get sad whem people judge any of these guys based on the comedy books alone when everyone in them is silly! Even Batman! It's comedy! Have fun!
Personally I love those two books and re-read them like it's going out of style (which it never will )
But YAY! I'm glad you like it! It really pleases me to hear from fans. (even though I really should've put more work into poor Dan...sigh)
Any grumpy non-readers who don't like Jaime will have to answer to me! I bet Ted and Dan would like a word with them as well. As someone pointed out in another comment, what is great about these characters is that each new incarnation actually enhances the ones that came before them. Jaime's an AWESOME addition!
I would really love to see some kind of, I dunno, elseworlds or time travel (lol, Booster) where we get to see Ted and Jaime go on adventures together, but even more than that, I'm totally with you, I want some Dan Garrett in DC canon, he only really pops up in the background and never gets any development. I want to know more about him!
AND I AM WITH YOU! Jaime's ongoing was AWESOME! He needs a new one again!

I'd say Steph's Batgirl series is the only book that currently has a similar vibe to it.
I wrote a blog post about characters/comics like this not that long ago [link] give it a look if you want to!
At least DC tries every now and then to put books like this out, like the awesome Tiny Titans. Marvel's been turning Spdiey into some gritty dark comic that doesn't look anything like what Stan Lee intended
Looks like a DC artist thought like you, the Beetles (minus Jaime) are appearing on the cover of the upcoming DC UNIVERSE LEGACIES #10, which relates the story of the current DCU, from the point of view of characters living there.
Look here: [link]
Awesome! I'd love a poster like this! XD
There's so much that could be done with Jaime! I hope he gets a fair treatment in Smallville, that could score him a new comic! (and perhaps a Year One for Ted or Dan? when the Outsiders were popular, Metamorpho got a Year One story!)

Oh damn, I want that cover as poster too! Holy wow! What week is that issue of legacies coming out, I hadn't been following the series, but I think I'll need that issue.
And I may need to pick up Batgirl, thanks for the recommendation! The Bat Family's been so all over the place lately, that I don't look at much of it beyon Birds of Prey. I didn't realize how fun that series was turning out! Whoo! Something new to read!
As far as Marvel goes, I do have to recomend the Marvel Adventures stuff. Marvel Adventures: Superheroes specifically has been consistently well-written and fun from the beginning. It's in pretty sharp contrast to the main universe...for either company, haha!

The Marvel Adventures comics have been great indeed! Didn't check much of them but from what I gather it really looks like the perfect modern day take on what Stan Lee comics used to be
Much more than any "Siege", "dark Avengers" or "Fear" could ever hope to be.
Why so many comics need to be dark and gritty these days.. °__°
(seriously? the "funny" characters tend to be killed all over the places.. Elongated Man, Ted, etc...)
Oh well... :/

No kidding. I mean, I don't really have a problem with dark and gritty in moderation...IN MODERATION MARVEL AND DC...but when EVERYTHING is like that, it loses it's edge. "Oh look, another character died, fifth one this week...yawn" These things should be saved for proper occaisions, and not be overused like they are.
...plus, there just aren't a lot of "fun" alternatives. I'm forced to browse the kid's sections for good stuff. I don't mind that so much, because well-written is well-written, regardless of demographic, but it's like they think that adults are not allowed to have fun.
To quote C.S. Lewis:
"When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

Until Khaji Da clones the last saved thoughts of his friend into a fully restored brain.
After all what is the point of burring into someone spine if a headshot can kill it.
There only rumors but words have it there could be a new blue beetle comic series on it's way.

I like your thoughts. They are good and you should feel good.
But seriously, it's an excellent point. Hasn't he already survived a mortal wound before?
I'm mostly just annoyed that DC went with this at all, since they'd been forshadowing it SO. MUCH. It felt almost anti-climactic. I had myself convinced that they were trying to fake us out that it'd even happen.
But damn, if those rumors are true, I will be one very happy fangirl. A new Blue Beetle Series would be the best of all possible worlds! Thanks for the hopeful tip!

I recently heard all about the Blue Beetle while going through Linkara's archives (a reviewer of comic books if you haven't heard of him, he loves the Blue Beetle too). I really love the love of Jaime Reyes' costume, I mean, c'mon how can I NOT love blue and black featuring eye stripes, armor and pointy things?
Okay, onto some critique . I LOVE the premise of this piece and I'm thrilled to see someone I know do fanart of this hero! Thing is, the teal background makes the image too cold and almost calm. I'd use a shade of orange to make the characters pop off the page. Also, you might want to add a bit more to eh background, even if it was just a circular gradiant of shades of orange, or action lines.
The next thing I notice is that the first BB is off center, and there's this yawning gap behind him that goes unfilled. His pose is also very static and not overly superhero-y, especially for his time. Maybe next time make him fill the page and strike a heroic pose, smiling upon those that have succeeded him.
We see the next two BB's charging off into the same direction, which could work, but I feel that the image becomes a bit heavy to that direction. If what you're going for is more of a poster that glorifies the BB and makes your eyes linger over is as opposed to an illustration of an event actually happening I wuld have had them charging in two different directions from the same spot, maybe one heading over, and the other heading under. But that's just me personally.

Do I know Linkara? ...I might be a bit of a fan [link]
I love his Blue Beetle tribute, though it took me forever to watch it the first time, since I was (stupidly) so scared of what he'd say. Now I think I've watched it more than any of his other vids!...though when he gets to the part where he comments on no one - including him - buying the book, I always yell "I bought it!" like a dork. I have every issue of that run bagged and boxed at home.
Really, though, I think your criticisms are spot on, but there's still not much I would change. "Cool" was the feeling I was going for. I have a hard time placing warm colors with these guys for some reason, even though it looks good (as evidenced in his solo series) it just doesn't gel in my head. And I kind of wanted the effect of the poses to be the two of them charging off into battle, side by side.
What I personally think is the actual failing of this image is derpy Dan back there. I didn't spend enough time on him. I think I was getting a little burnt out on drawing and probably should have put it off. Despite the fact that Dan Garrett was never really a DC hero (he's shown up a couple of times, but is never really featured) he's important to the history of Ted and Jaime and I love him for that so I wanted to include him in the picture, but he ended up being more of an after thought and I actually had to mess with him a lot in photoshop to even make him presentable. Likewise the balance of the picture is pretty much spot-on without him - kind of a diagonal thing, which is how I originally drew it. It's adding Dan to the mix that messed it all up.
...but I wouldn't want to remove him. If I gave him a more dynamic pose it could've worked, but c'est la vie. At least he's there, I suppose.

Oh my word it's the BLUE BEETLE! Excitemeeeent~
I haven't read much about the Blue Beetle, but I know him because MY favorite superhero is Booster Gold, Ted Kord's best friend from the Justice League who now has his own series that I discovered last year. Do you know him? He is awesome, and there is actually an arc in his comic that includes all of the Blue Beetles, even Ted Kord, who at the time is dead. (And some of the actual comic books have Jamie Ray Blue Beetle bonus comics at the end.) Your version of Jamie looks super epic; I would probably read his comic, too, if my library carried any of his trade paperbacks.
Yay for being drooling fangirls of mildly obscur characters! *high-five*

Do I know Booster Gold? Do ~I~ know Booster Gold? You bet your sweet bippy I know him! I think it's required by law that to like Beetle, you have to like Booster, and vice versa. Hahaha! (Though sometimes I think DC ships Booster and Ted a little hard )
Booster's actually next up for a fanart. My sister wants one of Booster begging Rip to let him punch out Hal Jordan, since Hal's been such an ass in the Time Masters mini-series. It's great, I'm a HUGE Blue Beetle fan, and a fan of Booster. My sister's a HUGE Booster fan and a fan of Beetle. We compliment each other well, haha!
Have you checked out the series 52? It takes place just before the current Booster series, and it's how they saved him from obscurity. It's a great series, if you can find it, I highly recommend.
Also? Keep an eye out for those Blue Beetle trades, they're just fantastic!
ALSO - YAY FOR A FELLOW BOOSTER FAN! HE IS AWESOME AND DC IS ALWAYS GIVING HIM THE SHAFT IN ORDER TO FEATURE OTHER LESS INTERESTING CHARACTERS! I'M SO GLAD TO HAVE FOUND ANOTHER FAN!

8D THIS IS EPIC I don't know any other Booster Gold fans you are my new best friend! Lol, I love the fact that my favorite superhero is so obscur, really. It makes them more special somehow. PLUS you are so much more likely to actually be able to FOLLOW THEIR SERIES, unlike major superheroes like Batman and Spiderman who have 27 different universes for each of them.
Sweeet, I can't wait to see some Booster Gold art! Holy cow, I want so much to read the Time Masters mini-series, but I can't find the first few comics at the local comic book store. I don't collect the comics, either, so I'm a little behind on Booster Gold because the most recent trade paperback just came out and isn't at my library yet.
Lol, 52 is how I found out about Booster Gold! For some reason, my library proved its awesomeness even more by adding all of the Booster Gold books to their comic book section, but I fell in love with him (figurateively) in 52. He and The Question were my favorite characters. (I was less excited about The Question's new successor, mainly because they had at least two awkward scenes of her...uh...being a lesbian, let's leave it at that. But The Question was awesome. And also obscur, so bonus points!) I picked up more of his series once I realized they existed, although I managed to read one of the books out of order, so I knew about his sister way ahead of time.
I need to get them at my library! I can't afford to buy them, comic books are expensive in any format.
I KNOW THIS IS SO AWESOME I DIDN'T THINK ANYONE KNEW ABOUT THESE GUYS!

Man, I know what you mean about Montoya. Nothing wrong with making her a lesbian, but for a while, it seemed like that was her entire character. Guys! Renee Montoya is a BAMF who also happens to be gay! It does not compose her personality! Please do not be forgetting that, DC!
(Also I loved Vic and was sad when he was gone. )
Time Masters is pretty awesome, though most of Dan Jurgen's Booster stuff is pretty fantastic, since he created him. You're probably better off being behind in the Booster Gold book right now, since the Giffen/DeMatteis run on it was kinda...not so good...BUT WORRY NOT! Now that Time Masters has ended, Jurgens is returning to the main book, so it should pick right back up to awesome again!
Oh, I definitely understand on the money thing. I actually work part-time at a comic book store to support my habit. Maybe you can request they get the BB trades? Or ask them to get them from another library? Food for thought, though, Jaime's been awesome in Booster Gold stuff, too! So they aren't required reading, just suggested.
Keep a look out too, because Generation Lost should be going to trades soon. It follows all the old JLI team members, and Booster goes from being the team clown in the old stuff, to leading them in this! It's been good, though I may take that back in another couple of issues, depending. Haha!
Oh man, I better stop or I'll babble all freaking day!
Just curious. What made you pick up 52? It's an awesome book, but not a big name, so I'm wondering how you lucked across that one!

Yes, it was so sad. He was awesome. And I know! I don't care for such things myself, but I could deal with that in her character, except that they felt this insufferable need to flaunt it in the most inappropriate ways possible. It was downright disgruntling; easily my least favorite part of the whole series, and it almost ruined the Question storyline for me. (Thankfully the first time I read it I actually managed to skip one of the really...revealing pages, so I was able to get to like The Question without being distracted by thoughts of, "Why did they have to go and do that?!")
Isn't Time Masters set in, like, the future, when Booster has a son or something? Is he married now? I felt like I'd missed something when I glanced through one of those comic books. I do know that it is supposed to be about their search for Bruce Wayne, who supposedly died, which is hilarious just because I was just talking to another friend about how comic books have the annoying habit of killing everyone at least 17 times and then bringing them back to life.
I am up to the part in the series right where Booster helps keep the Black/Red Beetle from killing Dick Grayson as Robin and thus letting Trigon take over the world, and I know the next part is Booster's stint in Darkest Night, but I'm hoping to get ahold of the new tradebook instead of buying the comics. I don't really feel the need to actually OWN these if I can access them elsewhere, esp. the comic books. They're so hard to keep organized, I just shove them under my bed.
You know, I have known for a long time that the library can order books your request, but I've never actually figured out how you go about doing it. Maybe I can do it today; I'm actually sitting in the library as I type this. Which is funny, because I just realized that I'm fulfilling a childhood dream of mine right now: hanging out at the library all day. XD I'm waiting until I have to go and meet some friends for our first official writing club meeting. (We'll see how that goes.)
Ohhh, is THAT what that was? I saw one of those in the comic book store! I was WONDERING why Booster was there! In his series, he basically flat-out refused to be on the Justice League and to continue being thought of as a jerk to hide his secret of being The Greatest Hero You Never Heard Of! What changed? You can tell me, I don't mind spoilers. That is SO AWESOME that he's getting bigger parts! I love how they've moved him from being an insufferable money/fame-hungry glory hog to a much more mature, responsible, conscientious person. I think it gives his character a lot of depth. That, and the fact that his comics are both hilarious and never dirty (so far as I've seen), are the primary reasons why I love his comics.
XD I can relate, don't worry!
We have a pretty decent comic book section at our library, and about last year I started sifting through it, looking for interesting stuff. And I found those, and I think at the time some dude recommended them to me who was standing right there (although that might have been later.) It was definitely an interesting read, since I'd never even HEARD of most of the heroes in there. Our library is awesome in that it has all four volumes of it, and now it has all of the currently-released Booster Gold series, so I can fully enjoy my favorite superhero. ^^ Now if only they would get the next one...

Time Masters is actually set in the current storyline. In the main DC Universe, Batman had been thrown back in time and was lost in the timeline. The result of that was a mini-series called "The Return of Bruce Wayne" which was kind of fun as we got Caveman Batman, Pirate Batman, Cowboy Batman, ect. However, all his mucking around in the past was messing with the timeline, which Rip Hunter and company have to go back to fix, so the Time Masters mini-series runs kind of parallel to the Return of Bruce Wayne one.
As for Booster's son, remember, Booster's a time traveler. He hasn't actually had a kid in his timeline yet, but you've met his son already, haha! Time travel messes everything up. I was weirded out when it was revealed myself, an amused sort of weirded out. They haven't said who Booster's wife will be, the only hint we have is that she's a fellow superhero.
Anyway, I think that bomb got dropped somewhere in the main Booster Gold series, so you might be coming up on that soon.
As for Generation Lost, the story is that Maxwell Lord - the guy who killed Ted Kord - is now back to life himself and causing trouble. The first thing he does is use his mind powers to cause every single person in the world to forget who he is and what he did...except for the surviving members of the Justice League International. That's Booster Gold, Fire, Ice, Captain Atom, and legacy heroes Blue Beetle and Rocket Red. (Side members Batman and Power Girl know something's up, but thy keep re-forgetting.) So now, they're the only ones who know who Max is, what he did, and can stop him, and they have to stop him alone because the JLI is generally seen as a joke, and none of the other heroes are willing to listen to their fantasy story about some made-up guy named Max Lord.
It's a pretty good set-up, a little hit and miss on the writing, though. Their writing for Ice is terrible, but the new Rocket Red is so awesome he makes up for it! (Who'd have thought an over-the-top communist could eb so much fun!)
Mostly, I'm worried because the latest issue makes it seem like they killed off one of the characters...and if they did, I'm going to be angry, and if they didn't, it's still not a very good device since they foreshadowed it so much it lost it's dramatic impact. We'll have to see, the next issue is this week.
If you can find it, I'd also highly recommend reading "Showcase Presents: Booster Gold". It's a collection of his entire initial run. The writing's a bit dated, and it's all in black and white, but when Booster first arrived, he wasn't a terrible goofball either. He liked money and fame, but was more interested in being a hero. His current series is actually bringing him back to the way he initially was. The whole shallow character angle was developed during Justice League International (by Giffen and DeMatteis, I really like these guys for the most part, but they really screw over Booster Gold. I seriously suggest avoiding the books of the series they wrote when you get to them) and has just been accepted by the DC community, instead of keeping him as the complex, interesting character Dan Jurgens initially created. Sigh.

Dude, that does sound awesome. Lol, gonna stink for Dick Grayson when they bring the real Batman back, though. That's really weird that he's meeting his son-from-the-future. I do wonder who his wife will be. *strokes chin thoughtfully* Agh, I need to catch up on that series!
Ohhhh, NICE! That makes SO MUCH SENSE! Now I really want to read it. I have only recently even learned who Rocket Red is, but if he is as awesome as you say, then I look forward to reading about him.
Ugh, I HATE it when they kill off characters! It almost never sticks, and they very rarely ever do it well enough that it's not just plain aggravating!
I have read that! It was another book that the library had on file. It was quite interesting, although I was a little sad that it mentioned so many times when Booster and Blue Beetle got into silly antics, but never showed them because they were a part of the Justice League arc. It did have a very entertaining mini-comic in the back about Booster trying to sell a bunch of marketing stuff about the JLA and J'ohnn threatening to tell Batman. XD And I think his shallow charcter angle was his original incarnation; I read how they made him up, and Dan Jurgens had the idea of creating a superhero who was in it for the fame and marketing and stuff. I am very happy that they are showing how he is growing out of that stage, though, and becoming a real hero. ^^

To be honest, I feel more bad for the son. Having to deal with a younger version of your dad who doesn't know who you are? Weeeeeiiiird.
I might recommend then that you stay away from his Justice League International days. I might be thinking that the original stuff isn't that bad because I read JLI first. Booster's not much of a hero in those books. I DO recommend them pretty highly, though, as just comedy where you're not looking for much character developement. Especially the two minis "Formerly Known as the Justice League" and "I Can't Believe it's Not the Justice League." They're a lot of fun, if fun's all you want. In the second one, Booster accidentally sends them all to hell (yes, hell) where he and Beetle end up serving burgers to demons. So yeah, Booster's kind of an idiot in those...but they're funny.
...though that series didn't end until AFTER Ted's untimely demise, so the writers decided to make the final panel be Ted and his murderer laughing arm in arm. Which in hindsight is kind of horrifying.

XD Thiiis is a point. Poor kid. Honestly, time travel just messes EVERYTHING up! Hopefully the kid at LEAST knows enough not to spoil who's who's mom.
Ahh, I don't mind that silliness. I know it will be dorky and cheesy, but I still think it would be fun. And he really WAS an idiot there for a while. XD That's been built pretty well into his backstory, though, so it fits. It was before he grew up and got a brain in that pretty head of his. If you know where I can find those online (I doubt such a wonder exists, but it's worth a shot), then let me know, please!
Oh my word, that is horrible.
Oh! Btw, I am catching up on TW! I'm to the part where they're being led away by the Boetheri (sp?) with the masks. Those masks are awesome. I REALLY hope they figure out what the crap is going on soon, because I have this terrible feeling that Evil Nareth is using Good Nareth's name for sinister purposes and is planning some sort of ambush or trickery. ...Then again, that probably isn't too much of a jump in conclusions. XD

I unfortunately don't know where you can get them online. I was lucky enough to get them in shiny trades that I reread a lot. Though they're apparently pretty popular among DC fans, since I know a bunch of people who have them. Keep a look out, if you stumble across them, they're pretty fun.
As for TM, you've probably caught up by now, since I took so long to respond but I'll reply anyway, because I like talking about the comic.
You're sadly just about caught up, but I WILL be starting to explain some things soon. Agneris (the guy the boetheri are taking them to) knows a lot about what's going on...though he likes being mysterious too, so it won't come all at once.
I'm glad so many people like the masks, too, they were a lot of fun to design! Each one represents a natural spirit, and they wear them to call on that spirit for protection and strength...or they DID. Now they wear them mostly because it's tradition and because they scare intruders. haha!
Evil Nareth always has another plan up his sleeve, though.

Ah well, I will just have to continue to stalk the library and comic store for them. AAGH I SO WISH I HAD OODLES OF MONEY SO I COULD BUY EVERY FRIVOLOUS THING I WANT!
Yes, I finally caught up to the comic and HOLY CRAP THE TRUTH IS REVEALED WHAT WILL HAPPEN ALKDJFLKASJDFKLSJD. This is awesome and terrible at the same time, because on the one hand, we are RIGHT WHERE I WANT TO BE, and on the other hand, AGH ANOTHER WEEK UNTIL THE REACTIONS OF THE GROUP ARE REVEALED. I may lose some of my sensibilities if you only give us a cover page on the next update, although I SUPPOSE I can wait another couple of weeks...
If nothing else, it is so DELILICIOUSLY wonder to see Evil Nareth's plans finally crumble. I really wasn't expecting it to happen here, it's such a relief knowing that I won't have to suffer watching him trick the elves and boetheri and do something that would no doubt be disruptive for all and perhaps the end of all humanity and life as we know it.

Bwah ha ha haaa! Well, I'm sorry to say that this week's page WILL be a cover page, though I'm uploading something bonus as well for a bit of an apology. haha!
We'll get into the new chapter next week, but Evil Nareth is our villain, so he does still have some nasty plans in mind.
Haha, I'm so glad so many people are enjoying this current story-line. Now I've got a bit of pressure to keep up the pace

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH oh well I'll deal with it.
Yay bonus stuff! /o/
Oh, well, COURSE, he'd be something of a sorry villain otherwise; I'm just glad that THIS part, at least, is coming out into the open. ^^ Not that it wouldn't be utterly delicious to see Evil Nareth finally get the head-slapping he deserves.
You'll do fine. ^^ You are great about keeping a consistent schedule, which is more than quite a few comic artists can say! Keep up the great work!

Well Don't that just Beet All.
Blue Beetle is a strange strange hero....or Heroes... He started so generically forgettable And each time a new one comes along, aside from becoming more interesting... They Make the Ones who came before more interesting Too.
I love Ted and would be overjoyed if he came back, but at the same time Jaime Reyes was a brilliant take on Teen Heroes. I think the best description was "Spider man for the DC" universe. WHICH HE WAS. But also wholly original, and in an interesting Locale.
Basically Blue Beetle is the obscure sort of also-ran character that makes big Comic book shared Universes so very worth it. The Poses are Dynamic, and I really like Jaime's armour.

Yeah, it's really hard to pin down one singular thing that makes "The Blue Beetle" so awesome. It's exactly as you said, I love how each successive version builds on the last. Heck, on of my favorite moments from the JLI years was a moment when Ted was in a Coma, so they sent Dr. Fate into his mind to get him out of it. What I didn't notice the first time around is that in his mind, Ted's wearing Dan's costume. I didn't notice it at first because it's in monochrome, it's never mentioned and he's not wearing the mask, but it's such a nice, subtle touch that you can read a lot of different things in.
...I still argue that since Ted didn't use the scarab, there's no reason we can't have them both, but if Ted's dead for good, then at least we have Jaime who is beyond awesome. (And yes, I know, Generation lost. IT'S A FAKE OUT! IT HAD BETTER BE!)

True facts. Ted could be back and It would be AWESOME. Especially if he stuck with Booster Gold and just did Time Shenanigans.
I don't know what generation lost is? is it TERRIBLE? IT SOUNDS TERRIBLE.
Also completely unrelated but I think it would be hella rad if Lian Harper came back as a Ghost. Roy is already a Badass Archer, what if he had a secret invisible way of making IMPOSSIBLE Ricochets and other trick shots? By which I mean an adorable little ghost telling him whats around corners and who is where in the dark.

I will subscribe to your suggestion with Lian. Seriously, I would read the hell oout of that. And it would make up for the fact that I'm avoiding everything arrow-related at the moment. (I once had fond hopes of Lian growing to join the Arrow clan and Milagro Reyes becoming a Green Lantern making a new generation of those Green Arrow/Green Lantern books. Sigh.)
As far as Generation Lost goes, I actually kind of loved the idea. Basically Max came back after Blackest Night and used his mind-warping powers to make everyone forget all about him...everyone except the surviving members of the JLI. So the story was all the remaining JLI members (that they could use, they used a bullshit reason to keep Guy out so they could use him out in space. blah.) banded together to find Max and put a stop to his misdeeds, since no one else would help them. (Because of this, everyone in the DCU now believes Ted committed suicide - RAGE FOREVER! Booster's face upon hearing that was heartbreaking.) There were good points and bad points, I don't really like their treatment of Ice, but the new Rocket Red is FANTASTIC! Everything's going along swell, but in the last issue...this happens... [link] That's the cover, but it's accurate to what happens in the book. It's what I was whining about on my LJ, and it's kind of what prompted me to make this (though I've been intending to do this for months).
It feels like a fakeout, they've been hyping it too much, hyping HIM too much, and Jaime has recovered from mortal wounds before...but I don't trust DC enough at this point to get my hopes up.
It's a shame too, because beyond that, the last few issues have been pretty good. :/

Okay I infinitely agree on hoping its a fakeout. Aside from the fact that its standard issue comic drama where the villian thinks he's killed the hero for the hero to be playing possum, or at least fighting towards conciousness...
There is no real drama to be had putting it on the cover. As near as I can tell anyone who cares about Ted still likes Jaime, so killing Jaime is basically just killing a character people like to justify putting in a character those same people like. I can't speak for all Beetle fans but it seems pretty alienating.
IT DOES However have an interesting story behind it though.
My dreams of GHOST ARROW are basically a strange fanfic in my head, but I needed to tell someone. YOU ARE THAT SOMEONE because you to were properly Enraged.
The Problem with Child characters is... they tend to grow up a little too fast... and that ages Main characters. and I fully understand how that is something that might alienate the target audience, especially with a franchise.
But the Success of things Like Teen titans, Young Justice, even Legion of Superheros. I partly refer to the eighties, but the reason these heroes have been so resonant with audiences is they represent a new generation, which makes them more welcoming to newer readers. OR AT LEAST thats my theory (SORRY FOR CLUTTERING YOUR DA WITH COMIC RAMBLING)

(I MADE THIS PICTURE KINDA OF HOPING I'D GET SOME COMIC RAMBLING)
Yeah, it sucked all the drama out of it, having that cover. And this happened on the last page so...what was the point of the rest of the book?
And for me, if this went through, I'd be strongly tempted to drop most of my DC titles, just because pretty much everything DC I read is related to Blue Beetle in some way, so it'd suck the fun out of those books too.
Here's hoping they aren't that dumb...especially with Beetle and Booster showing up on Smallville (I may have to watch my very first episode ever of that show, haha)
Oh, I love your reasoning on Ghost Arrow! They wouldn't have to worry about a timeline at all if she no longer aged! That's kind of fantastic...and let's be fair..."Aresenal" really needs a good voice of reason right about now. (Or has he gotten one?...I stopped paying attention.) I really love the idea though, I stand by what I said, I would SO read that comic!

I'm not too familiar with the Blue Beetle...but isn't he the young guy on that new Batman animated series..."Brave and the Bold"? Has a lot of the "classic" DC heroes (I confess...I'm more of a Marvel-Girl myself! lol)

To be honest, I was always a pretty stricly Marvel fan myself, and I still prefer that universe over all...but then I discovered this character. Now I'm buying most of the major storylines in DC because Blue Beetle is tangentally related in some way. It's funny too, because he almost seems more like a Marvel character (I mean, aside from the whole Spiderman thing
) being pretty flawed and relatable rather than a perfect paragon to aspire to.
But yes, he is the character that's been in Brave and the Bold, and I love the way they portray him! Will Friedle a great voice actor too! They also put the Ted Kord version in a couple of episodes too, and handled him really well as well! YAY!
If you're ever interested in checking this character out, as I said in the notes, his solo series is out in trades and it is EXCELLENT! It even stands pretty well apart from the rest of the DCU, despite the great variety of guest stars it sees.
