Description Icon animation tutorial for all of you who aren't too sure how it works!
This particular example is a little trick I used to use when I first started working out animation. The 'bounce' animation is probably the one you'll come across the most on deviantART so this is the one I've given a tutorial on. As long as you follow it step by step you'll have a smooth and well put together animation for every icon you make.
The finished animation:
And now you can all see exactly how much detail I put into all my icons

Character used belongs to *TehMightyThundah . Icon is not a free icon and only to be used by its resepctive owner.

Let me just say that this is a bad method of animating bouncy icons because what your doing to make the characters bouncy is making their legs go longer and shorter. Why do I think this? It's because when you're dragging down the body, you're making the legs shorter as you overlap the legs' pixels. Therefore, making the legs shorter.
If you want to give it a proper bouncy look, make the legs bend. Surely it takes up more time but it looks more realistic and the final result should be more rewarding.

I hope I wasn't too blunt with what I said, I'm just trying to help.
Hope my comments helps with future bouncy pixels.

In fairness this is a pretty old tutorial - I also made it as a way to help people who are just beginning to animate so I wanted it as simple as possible.

thanks <3 though, would it work on gimp? i tried it with the same tools, though it only moved the layer, and not my selection.

Not a clue. I haven't used GIMP for years because I got Photoshop, you'd have to find someone who uses it and see if they can help you with that

Huh. What version of Photoshop do you have?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kickerkitten In reply to DragonsPixels [2013-08-30 22:52:56 +0000 UTC]

CS6 (64 bit) on windows

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DragonsPixels In reply to kickerkitten [2013-08-31 08:13:38 +0000 UTC]

Ohh, mine is 64 bit CS5.1 on Windows.
The CS6 version moved it, you should have something called 'Timeline' I think, and then that should take you to different options. You need to select 'Frame Animation' and then you should be okay.
I'm not 100% though as I don't have or have ever used CS6, I'm just going off what I've spoke to other people about. If you get stuck then I'd recommend maybe looking around on Google to see if you can find any tutorials or youtube videos that'll show you how to do it.

It's gonna help a lot, also if you think you could explain to me how to save an animation wit ha transparent background with photoshop it'd be awesome because I keep trying and it always add a white bg for whatever reason TwT;...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DragonsPixels In reply to Akimune [2013-08-19 14:42:52 +0000 UTC]

No problem!

Yeah, basically when all the options come up in the tab after you click 'save for web and devices' there should be a little tick box near the top on the right hand side that says 'transparency'. Make sure that it's ticked before you save otherwise it'll put the white background in.

Well so far since I got Photoshop on my personal laptop I have never had a crash but the college computers were forever crashing in Photoshop. Cost alot of people alot of time and work.

Yep, it's expensive nowadays to get a new good one... I can't afford any art school as well, or well, media design school or game art school... so I work in economy ;w; no luuuuck!

DragonsPixels In reply to Akimune [2013-08-19 18:45:22 +0000 UTC]

I was very lucky with mine because it was on sale for an extremely discounted special offer price but my boyfriend brought one not long ago for nearly twice the amount AND it had less on it than my laptop . I didn't have the heart to tell him lol.

College education is free over where I live. It's only when you go to University that you have to start paying. I managed to get some good grades on a good art course.

Right, UK is different than the USA I keep forgetting at some point ...
And indeed thatΒ  was lucky, mine is 8 years old now, never got the chance to get small jobs as a full-time student (only night ones) and my parents are poor enough I don't dare asking them any extra expense...

Yeah I was like that too. The only reason I got this latop was because I didn't want to do anything for my 18th birthday and I needed my own computer to be able to do my college work.
