Description The carcass of what was once a giant specimen of Shastasaurid floats across the ocean, decomposing while several opportunistic predators such as hybodontids sharks, nothosaurids and a type of ichthyosaurid known as Thalattoarchon take the mouthfuls of the titanic corpse...

Reminds me of that video where sharks and crocodiles were filmed feeding together on a floating humpback whale carcass.

They've got food to last them quite a while now.

Splendid work. The art piece looks really stunning.
Also the shastasaurid looks quite grand, even though it's a floating carcass.

Wouldn't the carcass sink

Eventually... probably like the current whales the great ichthyosaurs carcass generated many decomposition gases that kept them afloat for a while

I think the gases formed by decomposition could be keeping it afloat.

But then why do whale drops occur

Eventually the gas escapes and can't keep the carcass floating, so it sinks.

Well the actual inspiration came out from actual whale carcasses which sometimes are seen from up, more specifically a sighting of a whale carcass being devoured by a crocodile and a shark
