Description
This is a small concept that had occurred to me while watching a physics class in addition to a reading of a hypothetical idea about life in a 2D.A 2D universe is characterized by having one side, up and down, but without a front or back, everything works in an impossible existential level of access if you are a three-dimensional being.
This works with the same laws of physics, the same gravity, light, heat, solid, liquid and solid.
But all act commensurate with a two-dimensional universe.
Light exists, but it is useless since there is something three-dimensional shape could be perceived as such. The way that the native beings of this reality perceive its universe is based more so echolocation as electric fields. All beings that are able to develop advanced cognitive skills, are capable to feel and perceive, hear and touch, but they never see.
The density and structure of matter allows many objects or media can flow and interact similarly to our reality.
If someone could transform the perception of a two-dimensional universe into a sharp image would look sketches of what would be different beings, as if it were a half, as if the cross-section of things. Different types of shapes, of different tonality depending on the density of each would be.
Any form of life there, it would look as if they were diagrams of an alien anatomy book. Since everything is perceived by waves, we can observe all details of their bodies, both external and internal

Oh, damnit, somebody has executed the idea before me !
But bravo, that's amazing I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one that thinks that 2D verses cause problem on the biological level. I heard that they would cause problems on the physical level, since it is mathematically impossible for stars to form there, I coned not be able do explain you why…

(oh, I would mean "*don't* cause problem on the biological level")
You're welcome ^^

After looking at this again (and still loving it) I have found one problem with your design. As these are all 2-dimensional without a front and back, an end-to-end tubular digestive system would not work as it would essentially split the body in two halves with no connection between them.... The animal would fall apart. I reckon two-dimensional animals would therefore have sack-like digestive systems with just one opening for eating and excreting or they'd absorb nutrients through special areas on their skin by touching

That's because at the macroscopic level, it looks in that way.
At the microscopic level, the body is linked by its cells which have a different density that allows them to transmit fluids from one part to another. As more dense is the organism, is most visible.

Ah alright, that makes sense
It's a pretty cool idea

This is such an interesting idea... I'd love to see a Nea-type mini-project done with this concept! Instead of adapting life on earth to an alien planet, earth animals are transformed to be recognizable and fill a similar role to the one they filled back on earth, but adapted to live on a completely 2-dimensional version of earth.

Thank you.
Well, in this case, no being in this 2D universe comes of the Earth, or is a 2D earth, this is a completely alien world, in every sense.

I wasn't implying it was
I have to ask though, how do these animals function? I see some parts that look disconnected almost, but how would nutrients get to those parts of the bodies if that were the case? If I'm wrong and they are connected, how so?

They are connected, nothing more than the connections between tissues at the macroscopic level is impossible to appreciate. Microscopically you can see several of these connected tissues, in a similar way as do with our tissues.

Probably atomic or subatomic level, the atoms in such universes are the same as ours.

I reckon it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a depiction of two-dimensional beings and I must say, your thoughts on it are really interesting and quite clever

Whoa! This concept is a really hard one to tackle, but I'd say you've done really well with your speculations here! In a real 2D universe, life and physics would work in a way not even comprehensible to beings of any other dimension, but this is fascinating anyways.
