The following is an excerpt from a report to Fleet Command given 15th Sevenmonth, 5 AR, by Captain Tartovski of the People's Dreadnaught Indomitable.

"... so either these things are intelligent--frighteningly so--or they're controlled by a human pilot somehow. If the former is true, then I think it might be necessary to develop a new policy, because extermination has failed so far and we don't want to risk angering them further. If the latter... well, I'm sure we're all thinking the same thing. The Islanders are the only humans known to operate so far into the frontier, and we all remember the stories about their experiments..."
