Errr, something's wrong. Whenever I start using the pen tool, vectors "Shape 1 and so on" keep appearing. It won't lock on the line art layer....

Photoshop isn't free, which is what is used. Though, GIMP is free, and works nicely like this, but is much simpler c: SAI is free as well (the trial) as is the trail of OpenCanvas

How can you make curves with the pen tool? I don't know how...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nit13 In reply to nisu-chan25 [2010-11-27 15:07:21 +0000 UTC]

as you click the point, you have to moveit. the movement will adjust the curve.

I'm not sure. I don't own elements. Go to the "help" and type "pen tool" and see if anything comes up.

i just got brand new CS3, and i was trying to do some lineart, but i was trying to do the stroke path part, but it wouldnt let me click on stroke path, its like grey and unclikable -.- do you know whats wrong?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

draw-freak In reply to fuzzball-de-goof [2008-09-22 21:01:11 +0000 UTC]

hmm.. i would make sure that you have the pen tool selected then right-click. also, the lines have to be unselected. "how do you know if they are unselected? You won't see any points or arrows." You don't have to click right on the line, anywhere on the canvas is fine. I hope this helps.

This was very helpful. Thank you.
Just a question though... I used the pen tool and got half of my picture done, then saved it and exited. When I opened it up later, my pen marks were gone. o.o What happened? Can I get them back or do I have to do them all over again?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

draw-freak In reply to Perelandra [2008-07-11 18:03:29 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad my tutorial helps~ ^__^
Answer:
when lines are in the process of being made with the pen tool, what you see on your screen are only the paths (or as I said, "empty canals") for the lines ("water"). You won't officially create lines with the pen tool until you right click> stroke path> brush, and replace the stoke path with real lines.
i'm not sure if I make sense.
but the flat out answer to your question is "no". Unfortunatley, there is no way to retreve your line paths back, even if you saved. I made the same mistake. no worries. you'll have to redraw the lines and make sure you use "stroke pah" to create the actual lines before you save and exit. ^__^

Thanks for making this tutorial. It's really simple and clever! I mean that in a good way. Some other tutorials I've read use too much detail and just confuse the hell out of me. I forgot the joys of the pen tool so I'm going to give your way a try. Thank you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

draw-freak In reply to ponchki [2008-07-11 18:08:37 +0000 UTC]

Why thank you very much~! I really appreciate your support and am very glad you could get use out of this tutorial. I know what you mean, I've looked around at tutorials just to see how other people create their lines, but they are either too complicated, or don't explain the tool/steps. so often times, people will follow specific steps but not really realise exactly what they're doing. I'm pleased that mine is more understandable. thanks again~
and you are very welcome.

well, hopefully you have a pen tool or something and you just missed it.. >w<
