Description Redrawing old pictures is fun sometimes. As I keep on hinting, I'm working on a game at the moment (if I keep talking about it then it'll get jinxed and I'll never finish it, so I'm trying not to waffle on about it too much), but for a break I thought it would be fun to go back and redraw some of the art from one of my older games... so here it is.

At the top, you have the character select screen from the original Metal Mittens, circa 2001, blown up a bit since it was a measly 320x200 originally.

At the bottom, you have a sketchyrough version that I drew earlier. I suppose it would be more of a fair comparison if it were in colour, but hey. Not really patient enough with art right now, plus I'm tired. Since I'll have to make a polished looking character selectish screen eventually anyways, it'll probably happen one day.

I didn't draw this all in one big go... well, I did, but what I mean is that the characters are on separate sheets and cropped a bit, so I suppose I actually have 4 potential pictures here that I could work on, rather than just the one. Seems more manageable when I think about it that way...

She always used to be quite bubbly and cute, but I figured that hacking monsters up would probably lead to someone not staying that way for long. I dunno. I think she's just matured in general... *sniffs* it's so sad, my babies are all growing up

I really like drawing Rhino these days, gives me a chance to just go nuts and draw a hulking great suit of armour, and he usually seems to turn out fairly well because of it X3

Ive been working on a game project of my own, I know how hard it can be when you are responsible for the whole thing (art, coding, sound, etc). C++, but using the allegro libary T_T

Nice. They all look a bit "older", more mature really, in the newer art. Funny how that works. The new ones are sketchier, but definately show what you've learned about definition of forms. It's always fun to see how things have changed, and it's important to remember where you've come from, wouldn't you say?

Wow, you're totally right... looking at it, the ones at the top look like Mittens Junior or something XD

And yeah, I think it's important to remember that, in particular because most of the artists I've encountered tend to get bummed out and think "I'm not getting any better" every once in a while, and looking back at old art tends to shatter that thought quite nicely!

Awesome pic. It's always fun to take old pictures and touch them up, considering that a few years of experience can really make all the difference. Looking forward to the new game, whenever it gets completed. ^^ (As well as a certain art book someone talked about not too long back. )

Yeah yeah I know, and I have to actually do my thesis corrections sometimes too... there just aren't enough hours in the day for all this stuff, but I haven't forgotten about any of them.

At last count the book was up to 64 pages anyways, but it needs a bit of work on the descriptions and stuff...

My games usually die a grisly death, especially the one I'm working on (I've lost count of how many times I've tried to make it now)... but I think I'm further this time than I've been before, so fingers crossed XD
