Description
I wanted to do something involving PH for Trotcon, so here it is. Might even do another, we'll see. This, besides that truly horrible drawing of Pinkie, is my very first attempt at using a tablet. It's very stylized, so try not to hold that against me, I just love the blur tool so much...This is from the beginning of Chapter 34: Birthday when Blackjack is hallucinating or dead or both and sees... well, a lot of things.
Total time spent: Over 13 hours, sorta lost track
Total layers: 10
~*~*~*~*
Edit: Okay, they said to the queue last night, so I wasn't terribly surprised, but HOLY CRAP, YOU USED IT AS THE THUMBNAIL?! I was at work when someone first told me... I proceeded to bounce around like Twilight shouting "Yesyesyesyesyes!!" for a few minutes. Also read a bunch of the comments on the draw friends, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much to Seth, Cereal, Phoe, PK, and all the other lovely ponies over at EqD!!

Normally, I would prefer if you actually bought a print, but I don't think I'm going to be doing that for pony stuff anymore, so.... I guess it's all right.

Woah - trippy.
And I can't help but notice that you have put Vinyl and Octy's cutiemarks next to each other. And Blackjack's eyes are a very nice touch. That said, I think the best way I can describe this would be 'busy'. I don't think there is any 'blank' space at all - you have so much here, I'm half tempted to look at the stars and see if there is some meaning behind there pattern as well.
I do have one point, however - Blackjack looks... not quite _angry_ but certainly irritated.
I'm sure I would normally gush a bit more... but, unfortunately, I am very confused as to how I should feel about this piece.
Finally, gratz on the EQD feature.
I'm sorry, but I can't not point this out. Twilight, Trixie and Fluttershy should have no presence here, and Rarity... well, that is signifcantly less mutilated than I would have expected.

Fair enough. Trixie and Twi are certainly part of... something else, but that doesn't mean they don't have some kind of spiritual presence in the void. Who knows exactly what Blackjack experienced and I'm allowed to take some artistic license anyhow. Still, I agree. It got far more busy than I meant for it to, but I also think that there was a really crowded, uneasy feeling to the scene. As for the expression, I toyed with that for about an hour. I did it intentionally because the poor mare is not a smart pony and would probably get frustrated at not understanding what the buck is going on around her.
Yep, I love Vinyl and Tavs. If Bon Bon had had anything more to do with music or sound, she would've been there with Lyra. Actually, it was mostly because of how obscenely busy the picture was already that I didn't add her and a few more.

I- well... I do have about 14 years of drawing and painting experience. Also, I assume I might be magic? Plus, I also spent about 15 minutes on Pinkie and nearly 15 hours on this one. XD

Artistic license? Heh, I don't mind. There were so many details to keep in mind trying to get this scene right that it's not surprising there's (at least) one inaccuracy.

Oh hey, it's Blackjack! I was stoked to see this on EqD! I love the way you did the swirling. It gives the scene a chaotic feel, but still maintains a general flow. Uh, that didn't make sense, but...ahem, anyway! I love good PH fanart, and this is exactly how I imagined this scene to be, you did an excellent job.

Actually, it makes perfect sense to me, like the way water moves around a whirlpool. That's how I thought of it while using the smudge tool, anyways.

Sort of based on Starry Night in terms of style. The actual scene is from the beginning of Chapter 34 of Fallout Equestria Project Horizons.

Take a look at the painting in my gallery "In the Beginning," that's where I got the practice to do this on a tablet. Since it's the style I'm most comfortable with, it's also what I wanted to start out with.
Thank you! I hope it ends up there, I'll have to mention it.

It is appropriate. I'm definitely planning on doing something with the Doctor soon, too. I love him so much.
I actually talk to one of Somber's editors, Bronode, fairly frequently, so I'm mostly just waiting to hear his thoughts before I poke EqD because I think they need Somber's permission anyhow.

Always do, though it's generally through Bronode since he helps me with My Little Enterprise. I make things here and there (like that one song and the audio version of the conversation P-21 and Blackjack had a chapter or two ago) and he passes it on for me. The comment thread... is kind of ridiculous. I wish I had the time to go through it regularly, but dayumn.

Mmhmm, I've seen a bunch of Funamation actors at cons and listened to them talk about how to get into it. It's basically just working your butt off for free until you feel good enough to audition, then moving to where one of the main studios is and getting a crappy job while you go to tons of auditions. Who do you know, if you don't mind me asking?

I know its not easy to even do a reading, you've at least done this just fine.

DrewCopenhaver In reply to Haissan [2012-04-24 03:18:14 +0000 UTC]
That's awesome! I've seen at least one, if not both, at Ohayocon before.
I've always felt that readings are harder than voicing a character just because if you're voicing a character, you can get in character and stay there. You can deliver lines solidly and rarely have to worry about the voice slipping. With a reading, it's definitely not true.

Haissan In reply to DrewCopenhaver [2012-04-24 03:36:28 +0000 UTC]
Wel to be specific, yes readings of novels is harder. You do realize in Sentai Film Works and Funimation they write out the dialogue for you to match lip flaps. Oh I guess I should let you know I live in Houston, so there are some local events which the components of the former ADV does host. Funimation does the same here too. We have tuesday night anime showings at the alamo drafthouse cinemas. Most of the time they will show a show which has not been released yet. Which is pretty neat if you can ever make it.

Unfortunately, I live in Ohio right now, but in a few years when the car is paid off, I was planning to move to Houston, San Fransisco, or Vancouver, depending. And yep, I do realize that, but I've never actually had any experience actually doing it. That's pretty cool, though! If ever I find myself in Texas...

I meant Houston area, though I lived in Georgia for a while and I'm a bit wary about returning to the South. It's kinda why I'd prefer Vancouver, but *shrug* voice work is what I really care about. I suppose I could deal with lack of autumn, crazy heat, and scary Republicans for that.
