I wanted to do something involving PH for Trotcon, so here it is. Might even do another, we'll see. This, besides that truly horrible drawing of Pinkie, is my very first attempt at using a tablet. It's very stylized, so try not to hold that against me, I just love the blur tool so much...This is from the beginning of Chapter 34: Birthday when Blackjack is hallucinating or dead or both and sees... well, a lot of things.

Edit: Okay, they said to the queue last night, so I wasn't terribly surprised, but HOLY CRAP, YOU USED IT AS THE THUMBNAIL?! I was at work when someone first told me... I proceeded to bounce around like Twilight shouting "Yesyesyesyesyes!!" for a few minutes. Also read a bunch of the comments on the draw friends, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much to Seth, Cereal, Phoe, PK, and all the other lovely ponies over at EqD!!

I still think that's the current extent of my abilities, though. I cheat by using techniques that make it look prettier than it actually is. I want to be able to make things with the aesthetic and texture of stuff like your Wall-E one or this: [link]

The Bass Cannon one is turning out really, really cool. I just wish I had more time to work on it today. Ah well, I get off in ten hours, then I can mess with it again if I don't pass out.

No worries, I'm taking better care of myself than I was a few weeks ago. I'm actually trying to pull back when I get close to my limits instead of pushing a little too hard. This week's definitely shown me where those limits are. Six days in a row where the weekend is in the middle and I haven't been sleeping well? Yeah. XD I'll take better care of myself.

I tend to be a much darker person than I would prefer to be. The other image is both the title of a story and a quote from Tolkien. Mine was more a result of the scene the Blackjack image comes from.

First attempt at a tablet? Pretty good... my first attempt involved trying to hold the pen correctly and draw with it...
Let's just say, it was not easy. I seem to draw more precise with my fingers than with a pencil or tablet pen 
Also, love the fan-fiction this was based on.

Yeah, the first hour or two was mostly me derpin around with Equestria trying to make my hand accept it as some form of writing / drawing implement.
You and me both! Tablets are cool and you can do some really fancy tricks with a computer, but I still prefer a paint brush any day.

My attempt consisted of throwing it across the room and then crashing into the sun. It was not a fun experience.

I had a pretty hard time visualizing this scene while reading it, so seeing
somebody attempt to draw it is pretty impressive to me.
And, on top of that, you drew it well!

Thanks! I felt the same way, actually, it's the main reason I tried to do it. I honestly had to read the scene maybe five or six times throughout the process just to get everything right. I didn't realize the alicorn was "blueish white" to begin with and the shiny bits on her coat were originally a sickly green. If you look real hard, you can probably see that.

I can believe it. That's still easily the hardest chapter out of the 44 for me to visualize.
(A month later I've found the feedback button. A month later I still think this was an impressive scene to tackle and still think it was very well done.)

Heh, yeah, DA confused me for the longest time. If I had the time and money, I'd love to do an image or two for each chapter. Ah well, I'll have to stick to the outstanding moments. Still, the most recent chapter was pretty cool. It'd be kinda awesome to draw Goldenblood in the canyon making the fossils move or Blackjack and Stygius in the house.

Whoa man suddenly I'm trippin about ponies and stuff...
Your smudge tool (you used the smudge tool, right? Right.) is all over the place, man. It kinda makes the non-smudged stuff look out of place though, like the cutie marks are sorta popping out of the background, and the blue pony in the background looks too solid compared to everything.
But yeah, this is pretty epic. And trippy lol.

The cutie marks were intentional. Unfortunately, the scene gives little to no description of the alicorn besides "blue" so I didn't quite know what to do with it. Still, you're right, I really do love the smudge tool far too much in this one.

Oh wow haha yeah that would make it easier I guess xD. I only just got a tablet recently and have kind of been drawing on it. It's definitely weird getting used to. :S I've been drawing on and off since I was younger, but I don't have THAT much experience.

College was basically why I stopped. You have to pay far too much attention and have way too much work outside class to be able to doodle in class or have time to make stuff outside of it. Now that I'm done, I have more free timez.

I love Blackjack too much to want to see that, but it's going to happen and I actually wouldn't mind seeing the Hoof try to put itself right with her as a sort of martyr.

One question though: how did you create the halos of light for the c.marks/planets? Was it a gradient circle with lots of smudging applied?

I feel like it probably wouldn't have been quite as much of an acid trip, but, as I said in the description, I got a bit carried away with the blur tool. ^_^;
Close, actually. I'm still learning my way around the tablet. The halos were me drawing some really poorly constructed circles for the coat color and a slightly larger few for the mane, then used the blur tool. The motion was very different for Equestria than everything else, though. I tried to make it swirl around at an angle like weather generally moves.

It's nowhere near as pretty as the paintings are in real life, but it definitely makes a much better image for draw friends than a picture of a painting of a pony. ^_^ (Sorry, I do so love alliteration)

It actually reminds me somewhat of Starry Night by Van Gogh - which would be really fitting.
