Description
No, that is not the shape i made in the hall wall of Castle Frankenstein when he crept up behind and said boo. This Great Horned Owl is named Boo, and he has ended up in a raptor rehab center as a traveling guest lecturer because he was illegally taken in as pet in his youth; and now he thinks he is a human and cannot manage for himself in the wild. They tried to turn him loose with a tracking collar at one point -- a moot effort because he flew right back to the feet of the staff wondering when supper was. Now he gets to go on the road preaching the evils o adopting wild animals.Related content

BIrds and people . . . something powerful drives us to capture them.

It is perhaps pone of the most powerful lures for humanity -- the quest to tame every damn thing, without much consideration of the value of being free. Maybe that is one form of hell, ending up in the wildlife run zoo ourselves after death.

Ah, don't get too emotional. Boo seems to be grabbing the best he can of life, and does not strike me as being utterly depressed out on the lecture circuit. The presenter spoke of the time that Boo was put on his perch after the talk, as he is here, and the tether did not get attached correctly. He had a high old time apparently, flying around the crowd saying hello with the apparatus swinging over the heads of the crowd until he was persuaded to roost again. Seems he enjoyed giving the folks a start.

That was what the presenter tried very hard, and deeply passionately to relate to the crowd. As neat as it is for us to see him, it is not at all the life that Boo ought to have had. Now he is condemned to never know it.

Yes he is. Thinks he is one of the boys. The keeper put him on this perch, and he looked as if he wanted to get in line with the audience after the show for ice-cream. Not one bit skittish.
