Description Adorable Nigel is a Saw Whet Owl which suffered some kind of impact injury, which fractured his wing beyond repair. He now resides in a raptor rehab center filling the role of learned scholar educating folks about what fine, fine creatures can be found in the wild and the trials and tribulations they face. The presenter from the center said that in just the past few months, from a relatively small geographic area -- two Bald Eagles had been brought in that were shot. Yes indeed, in 2015 we still have knuckle draggers out there that will shoot the national bird for the joy of killing anything more nobel than they.Β

Say, you are entirely well suited there to wrap Nigel in an arm and head out on the town to put on the ritz!Β

A true class act, that Nigel. Unlike his pal Boo on the lecture circuit, Nigel is not quite acclimated to humans, so he did yeoman work taking on a large, oohing-aahing crowd.Β

Oh my, my, he is a gorgeous gentleman. Saw Whets happen to be my favourite owl species, for their ability to be both adorable and majestic, like li'l Nigel here; plus, they are very expressive feather dusters, which makes them incredibly fun to draw :3

Off topic, but it has been ages since I commented on your wonderful pictures (hopefully you can still recognize me with my new DA name and icon), so I felt it was time I stop by and bring a comment your way. Anywho, good work on capturing a fabulous picture of an even more fabulous owl!

ALWAYS fantastic to hear from you when you have a chance to stop by. I shall boogie over to your space when i get some pins under me and put the eyeball on what you have been conjuring up in the artistry that you conjure so well.Β

I bit ago, I had the great good fortune to go on an owl observation outing and it was probably a miracle many of us in the group did not lose an eye. The group leader was calling them; and until i attended this talk with Nigel, i did not realize that owls are essentially silent fliers due to the nature of their wings and feathers. In any case, the guy was calling -- and in the dark, all we saw was this streak cast against the starry sky go flashing through the crowd about five feet off the ground. Β Advantage Owl when the sun goes down.Β

I'm truly happy to hear that I need to scurry through your gallery, as well, and leave your fabulous pictures all the comments and faves that they deserve; plus, you already left me a chain of messages on my page, I'll look bad if I don't return the favour. And we can't have that

Oh yes indeedy, those feathered missiles have a nice fringe of feathers along their wings that mask most sounds due to their frayed edges. I've been an owl nerd for a while now and I've picked up a few fun facts although I am no expert. Just be lucky it wasn't a barn owl, they're one of the most silent fliers but one of the loudest and most terrifying hooters, or shreers in this case.

How fun though!!! I'd love to have gone out on an expedition like that, sounds like the life! Are you an animal biologist or an animal sanctuary director/employee?

My dear friend, I thank you kindly all around; and just want to say -- tis not a quid pro quo situation of favoriting and commenting. i express my thoughts as i can, when i can and it is never incumbent upon any reciprocity. If you just have an inkling to look through my stuff, enjoy them, grab this or that as they suit your fancy -- that is more than satisfaction enough for me!Β

I am actually an engineer by trade, a wild animal enthusiast by desire. I am just fortunate enough to live where there are a lot of wild writers, and activities to enjoy them either organized; or totally free range as i mostly do. The vast majority of what you see in Β my photos are just wild life i happen upon in my journeys. The owl walk was at a local state park, but there are no physical confines there like a sanctuary.Β

Well, many things are going to get faved and commented on, no matter the motive. You have a wonderful gallery, as I mentioned before, so I'm going on a comment spree very soon. Besides, I don't give attention to pictures for the sake of reciprocity (my little mention of me "looking bad" in the previous comment was just me being cheeky, hence the " "), so no worries there

Oh wow, I would never have guessed that, but kudos just the same! It definitely sounds like an incredibly amazing and inspiring place to live, and you do an excellent job capturing it all on camera.
