although the lumi-dots pattern on the nose seems a little misplaced?

Their dot patterns work like fingerprints in the sense that each set of dots is unique to that particular Na'vi. This is just the pattern I decided for her. If you watch Avatar in high def and pause at some areas, you can see some truly interesting patterns! The movie staff really made sure every Na'vi was unique. I love gonig through and seeing the different stripe patterns, and the lumi-dots.

I agree with you about fingerprints I noticed it the very first time I watched the movie and was very glad designers did that ^_^
What I meant is that shadowing\lighting on the nose seems to show the different degree of turn (of the head) rather than dot-pattern does (vertical center line of the nose and center line of pattern not aligning). Unless it's deliberate?

Ah ha... well it could be the angle, because I see what you mean. But her dot and stripe pattern are both put on her as a figure ahead of time. so I think it could be something of an illusion.
