Description
Here is a request forHe wanted me to draw a Forerunner Sentinel called an Exodus Class, so I gave it a go! Hope you like this thing!
This is an upright, 7 foot tall Sentinel that is deployed in groups of three and is used for land combat. They are supposed to be bipedal, but since Sentinels lack legs, I gave this one arms instead! The right arm is used for close quarters melee combat while the left arm is its Sentinel beam weapon. This particular Sentinel is a Exodus Leader class (why the talons are so huge and its body is red).
Instead of legs its body ends in a sharp point. It floats about a foot off the ground and doesn't fly. No legs means this Sentinel type can move quickly across any terrain. Its hooded, brooding, cloaked appearance is used to incite fear and intimidate enemy soldiers!
Yeah! Got one of my New Year resolutions done:
Submit an artwork on this website before I go back to work on Monday !!!

It looks cool I like your choice of colors. As for critique: Be careful when you color digitally that things aren't messy. (color outside of the outline when the outline is visible). That's a really easy way for something that should look wonderful to look messy and not well done. Actually a lot of works would be 10x better if there were certain details like that that were fixed up. It's a painstaking process but in the end its definitely worth it. Also just straight white lines for the shine may look good from far away, but also makes the texture look fake. You use a lot of soft shading, but in order to shade something professionally you need to get a good balance of soft and hard shading. (Tip: don't use the dodge and burn tool. Shadows should come from a cooler shade of the base color and highlights from a warmer shade ex. if your base color is red, use a purple for the shadow and a yellow for the highlight to add more depth of color). Also try to add some different line weights on your outlines so that certain things and parts of your subject are brought into more focus. The purple lines at the bottom do add a cool effect but since they are purple, try to incorporate some purple shading to the bottom of the sentinel as well so that the purple doesn't look so random. Overall cool work and a good start
I know you can create even more cooler stuff later on!

wow thankyou for the critique
I will definitely be using these tips when I colour my next lineart! I avoid using dodge and burn tools... they don't create a very good shading/lighting effect, though my sharpness of shading with the soft brush could be better!

Thankyou
That's a very interesting club, and I'd like to join! So fanart is allowed (because a lot of my stuff is inspired by the Halo games!)

You're welcome!
Iv sent you an invite.
Fanart is not allowed, but original art within a fandome is accepted. So if you drew an original covenant robot that would be cool.

Done! I'll submit Forerunner robotic artwork inspired by the Halo games (but not something canon from the games like Forerunner Sentinel screenshots lol)

If I'm correct Drskytowers fanfic is placed during the forerunner flood war so the flood are in the intergalactic phase making them as strong as they could possibly get. Also the exodus class is only deployed in groups of 3.

Great! I thought it might work well without legs (I know its meant to be bipedal) as most Sentinels seem to go legless in current Halo media!
It was also a lot of fun colouring this critter in... still learning how to digital colour my linearts.

I also have a side question will this be in any of your other works? Such as an image of it combating a flood form or a large group of flood forms surrounding an Exodus battle group?

Hey now that sounds like a great idea for an artwork. I might just do that! Perhaps a pair of blue Exodus Sentinels with a red leader one taking on some of my supreme Flood combat forms.

I'm thinking of doing it in comic format. And they'll be using the Forerunner Sphinx (some ancient Sentinel/vehicle mentioned in that Halo Crytum book).

i'm guessing the back is reinforced armor, because the back is a major target if it comes to flanked attack

drskytower In reply to Mate397 [2011-01-14 21:23:36 +0000 UTC]
The back is its elongated cranium, this slopes right down to the bottom like a cape and protects its back! But I'm thinking you can still perform an assassination on this type of Sentinel. They're only about as big as a Spartan. They travel in groups of three to prevent enemies trying to flank them though.
