Description Spotted hyenas are the only hyena species where the females sport an elongated clitoris (pseudo-phallus) that connects to both the bladder and uterus along with a fused labia (pseudo-scrotum) filled with fatty tissue. Their unique genitalia closely resembles that of a male's, and thus can make distinguishing between the two sexes more difficult. There doesn't seem to be many diagrams/references comparing male and female hyenas so I decided to do some quick research and make one of my own. I hope that this study proves to be helpful to other people. :3
Keep in mind that this study isn't one-hundred percent accurate. I feel as though I screwed up on the size difference between a male and female hyena but I didn't feel like erasing it all and staring over. Female hyenas are larger than the males but not too much.

Body Size
Female hyenas are slighter larger than males.

Body Shape
Female: lower body forms a straight line (when healthy)
Male: lower body forms a U-shape, curves upwards when it meets the hind-legs

(Pseudo) Phallus
Female: has a round/blunt tip, pink scar tissue in the back indicates a female who has borne at least one litter
Male: has a pointed tip

Teats
Both Females and males have a single pair of teats that are only a few millimeters in diameter. However, teats that are distinctly enlarged indicates a female hyena that's either pregnant or nursing.

Sorry for bad anatomy and poor quality. I had to take many photos of these drawings with my phone until I finally got one that was good enough. I wasn't trusting myself to use the printer/scanner which proves to be unreliable at times.
As for the anatomy.... I really didn't want to focus too much on that as much as getting the basics down. I have no other excuses.

Thank you to the people who commented on my last status update in regards to this- y'all know who you are.

The by far cutest hyenas I have seen thus far. A bit peculiar how the manes look slicked back rather than forwards, but your fuzzy Corben-ish lineart seems perfect for the texture of spotted hyenas.

Good point in showing the scars. Granted, have not seen many anatomy guides for hyenas before (most of the anthro hyena charts I have seen show the male as significantly larger too. Yay for conformity), but this is the first time I have seen one putting emphasis on just how brutal hyena reproduction is. As if mustelid reproduction was not gruesome enough - pulling 4-10 babies out of your own vulva with your teeth pales next to a delivery that by design involves a decimeter of perineal tearing.
