Description
A project for Art History, examining representations of mythological hybrid creatures in the art of the Ancient Near East. The best word for this is "rushed". I was trying to finish it for a deadline, so the lettering is sloppy (and rife with typos), the sketches are quick, and the research is largely wikipedia-based. My teacher seemed to like it, though. I thought I might as well post it here, since I put a good block of time in, and expressed some interest in it.I'd recommend downloading this to see it at full resolution.

Thank you! It was certainly more fun than a traditional term paper.

Man, this is fantastic! For me, this is a treasure trove of reference material for the near-Eastern-derived architectural and "mythical creatural" elements of the Overculture behind my mech universe. Right down to those aesthetic motifs/motives in the handling of the coiled hair and feathers...Incredible! I'll have more to say when I've read through the whole thing...I'm so glad you posted it!

Thanks man! Yeah, when I was browsing through your gallery I realized you and I referenced the same scorpion man drawing.

Great research project! Nice to see that some places still teach the classics. This was a lot of work, so congrats!

Wow, amazing detail. Great job, dude. I haven't seen these beasts in a while, as I too had an art history class (two years ago.) The shedu served as a minor influence for a painting i did a while back. Only difference was that the pictures of the shedu I saw in class had a fifth leg.

Awesome! Would you consider posting said painting? I'd be really interested to see it.
The whole 5th leg thing is an interesting part of the icon, I describe it briefly on p. 2, but it's hard to see from most of the angles I drew.

[link] It's interesting that something so terrifying is actually on OUR side and fights for justice. The human face is also a spooky detail.

This is nearly enough material for a book. All you need is a BS introduction and an index and bibliography, oh and those couple of blank pages they always throw in.

Oooo, and make the type really big and the margins huge like some novelists do.
