Yeah, they are common. I've had various crises of confidence lately on just that matter. Now that I'm working as an illustrator I'm much more aware of various trends. Like, all of a sudden, everyone's doing penguins, or pirates so, obviously, I thought it'd be a good idea to avoid the trendy thing.
But then I just got confused and distracted and thought "fuck it. I LOVE robots" so I'm drawing robots. I don't think most people who use robots in their art manage capture what it is I like about them so I'm sticking with them
