Description
A little bunch of paintings I did last night (beside a pen, for scale) that I'm gonna leave lying around my town and Dublin.I think it'd be cool if lots of people did this ....and =memod thinks so too, so if you won't do it for me, do it for him.
It's been done a lot before, in fact I think Picasso might've done that (anybody know if that's right or not? I might have imagined it)
Anyway, individual photos to follow...

Yeah, they're pretty small. I think it'd help make them a more unusual little thing to find lying around somewhere

great paintings, you've developped a formidable style that seems to not be ruled be scale. some kids from my old university would make small pieces of artwork and leave around the campus, it's tons of fun to find them hiding wherever. i don't think i'll be finding any of yours though

Those are tiny! I guess you just use small brushes, then? I love the black outlines and speckled dots stuff.

Duffzilla In reply to aneesah [2006-06-18 12:04:50 +0000 UTC]
The brushes aren't all that tiny actually, if you look, there's very little detail. I generally just do washes and stuff and then splat bits and then a little bit of cleanup and finally let the marker finish the pic. Loadsa fun!

They really trick my eye, if the pen wasn't there I could really believe that they are way much bigger of what they really are.
Nice work.
(my favorite is the fish btw)

The monkey and the giraffe make me think of Roald Dahl - only the pelican is missing! These are all wonderful, I love the thick lines and the colours.
Are you just going to leave them on tables and such, or stick them to walls? It's a pretty cool idea, whatever it is. There's a rather famous street artist in London who uses stencils to make scenes depicting a variety of animals. Unfortunately nobody knows who he (or she) is, because he'd probably get arrested, even though, he's conscientious about what walls he paints on.

a pelican!! Definately going into the next batch
thanks. I loved Quentin Blakes drawings.
Yeah, I was thinking that if I just leave them lying around they'll blow away and be nothing more than litter, so I think I'll be leaving most of them in indoor places where people might find them.
You're not thinking of Banksy by any chance, are you? He does political graffiti. I saw one thing he stencilled was (in Trafalgar Square I think) "designated riot zone".

Blake is one of my favourite illustrators, along with Ralph Steadman.
Yes, Banksy is the man. Just went to his website [link] and I recognise a couple of them. Some of them are excellent and I love the rat ones.
I think there are a few copycats around, though. On the corner of my street in Fulham, London someone's stencilled a zebra onto a white wall. It looks like Banksy's stencils, but it carries no message along with it - it's just a zebra, so I doubt it's him. Anyway, I don't mind it, it looks pretty cool.

yesterday was strange, I'm in this competition thing where you have to guess the results of every group match before the Cup kicked off. Yesterday I had England to win 2-0 so I was sitting there actually cheering for England. I went mad when Gerrard put away that cracker of a goal...... 'twas a very very strange feeling.

your support is much appreciated
... there is a cab driver that Sarah chats to at the school, he was proudly sporting his Ireland t-shirt but admitted he supported England in the Irish absence ... his support is appreciated too
As it happens I am not very nationalistic but world cup is different, good fun!
I love those little pics!!

Thats a really cool idea...hehe...it reminds me of this website project called "book crossing" i forget the websites url, you could google itthough i think. Its like this thing where people just leave books lying around anywhee and theres a barcode so people who get the book next will have to register and sign their name in order just so everyone could track that book. Its a really amazing idea, seriously. Wish I could get all those paintings! hehe...

.5 cm thick foamboard. People use it for mounting in picture frames.
